Please Help wheel problem
I have a 76 f250 with disc brakes on the front. I just bought some 8 lug wheels that r a 15" wheel. They came off a 76 e250 with disc brakes. I pulled them off the van myself. The problem is the front rims want fit over the disc on the front. But of course they fit on the back on the drums. My question is since the fit on the van. On the front. What would I have to do to make them fit My truck? Thanks

15" rims will not fit '76 and newer Dana 44 front axles. At least not axles with dual piston calipers. 16" rims are the smallest that will fit. They do however, like you said, will fit the rear drums.

15" rims were not offered stock. At least not for F250's. They did, however fit over drums. 1975 and older. My '75 highboy came with 16.5" split rims. No one would touch them if you needed tire service. You had to go somewhere that serviced heavy duty trucks.

Ford NEVER offered an 8 lug 15 inch wheel.

Most folks want a 15" wheel so they can find offroad tires that are worth a damn, cheaper, more plentiful, and aren't 10-ply.
Folks can and do make 15" rims work on a D44 front, however it requires that you grind the snot out of the calipers. I would sell the rims to somebody who is looking to do just that, WORK.

ford must have wanted calipers that size for a reason anyway, I wouldn't take a grinder to them

Thanks for all the replies. I am going back and taking the calipers off the van this weekend to make the front fit. And yes the reason I got them was to have a better tire selection and a whole lot cheaper. I have a 1 ton if I want to haul anything. Thanks again

Seems like a lot of work and modification just to have 15 inch wheels. Remember, smaller calipers will equal less stopping power for the F250s. Also, you may have to change your power booster and master cylinder if you have the big dual piston calipers on the truck. IF you do, that will equal more money and in the long run when you figure time and money, just to get 16's and not 16.5s, IMO.

Lots of folks have ground down their calipers to fit 15" tires, but part of the success also involved the correct backspacing to minimize the hacking required to make them fit. I have yet to hear a great number of caliper failure stories, but I have heard alot of "man, that was a itch." (plus a "b")
