-DOVE seem to have had "bad press"
-SHELBY seem to cost more than a new factory 460 crate motor

DOVE has been testing SOHC 427s on the drag circuit for a while. I know a guy loosely associated with them (ie, a friend of someone on the team) who says there are a few bugs to work out but the results so far are incredibly impressive.... I'll be in line for a 427 SOHC as soon as they start mass producing them...
Wayne, I guess I need to read a little more carefully. He did say "the new" and I left out "the" as there are no new Ford blocks from Ford aka crate that I am aware of.
I hope that is more better. :-)

In the cool still quiet of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
Have a look at the FE Big-Block Forum for an in-depth discussion.
There are new motors around though. I found a nos 428CJ short block, still in the Ford box. It's priced well outside my budget, and yours too, I'll guess.

I don't know about new, but there are a lot of sights out there on rebuilt ones. Long and short blocks. My '69 f-100 has a 360 and it gave me problems like no power, 4 mpg, and it leaked a little oil. I blew a head gasket and during repairs noticed a had a busted exhaust valve. I had the valves ground and new springs and all put in and it ran like a new truck. That is until I had to push it a little too hard on a crazy camping trip. Back to the point, I have seen shortblocks for under $1000. just look around on the net.

I've seen pictures of the Shelby block and it look unreal! However, it comes at a price and it's a BIG price.
The Genisis block has been under development for quite a while and the last I heard was that it was still in the works. The price seems fair for a new block that's limited in production and has a small market.
If your looking for a 4.125 bore and don't mind a used block, I'd start looking at the FT engine blocks. You probably already know about the FT block and the FE truck blocks that were used towards the end of the FE run (1973~76), some of these, about 1 in 3 can be bored to 428 size with no problems.
