It makes the sound going forward, increases with speed, makes in all gear selections, 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO. It's not the driveshaft. I changed out the u-joints in the front axleshaft. If you have anymore questions, please make sure I haven't already answered them.

That definitely sounds like a hub issue then. Something is either sticking or partially locked.

If it happens in 2hi, and unless you drive around with your hubs unlocked, it can't be anything in the front 4x4 system. This rules out front axle u-joints, front differential, front driveshaft and u-joints, etc.

It *could* be the hubs, but I really doubt it. Can you pinpoint where the noise is coming from?

I cannot pinpoint it, it's very elusive. One day I locked my hubs and put it in 4 wheel drive and I could still hear it.

Yes, everything is bolted down securely. I changed the front axleshaft u-joints.

I have manual locking hubs. I made sure multiple times that they were free and not locked. I did lock them in and then drive it in 2HI in for just a little bit and it still made the sound.

Lets have the axle code off the tag......I'mwillin to bet it's got an LS in the front and something came apart.....I would have said the hubs but he wouldn't be able to lock in 4x4 successfully but once again get the axle codes off the door jamb as well as off the TTB and we can go from there.......a busted up LS would be a good deduction.....

You said you wanted to convert to a solid axle...TTB is Twin Traction Beam also known as IFS...it's what you've got

It has axle code 19 which is 3.55 gears. The big code is, 1FTEF14Y3KLA88277. I hope that has the info we need.

Okay, well I have some other things to do right now so we can start where we left off. I'll have the codes off the axle for tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread.
