I'm not a petroleum engineer as I'm guessing there are no others on this string of opinions. I'm also not a salesperson for Motorkote, but as I said, I heard about it on a trucker's radio program early one morning on my way to work. That is the reason I only had 1 post SpringerPop instead of almost 13,500; I had a job to go to. I didn't have time to live on a website. But I digress. It was he Timken bearing stress test that Ed mentioned that caught my attention and made me think that it was worth a try. I send my oil in to Blackstone for analysis as well. They told me the same thing in that they do not believe in additives but that my analysis' were for some reason showing less metal wear between oil changes. Don't be misguided by the 20wt description that Blackstone used either. That was only a description of the viscosity. That really has nothing to do with what is really there that makes it pass that bearing test. As I said, I'm not a petroleum engineer but in my honest opinion, it actually helps. It certainly made my tiller and edger run quieter as well as other air cooled engines around the house plus my 2 garden tractors (1 diesel, 1 gas).
There,,,,,,that's my second post.... Cheers!!
Lets think about this a little more. If a 20wt oil with 4 parts per million of Boron makes your equipment perform better, maybe consider a specified lube that's licensed to meet your equipment's specs, that's on the lower end of the specified viscosity range your using, that also has at least, or more than, 4 parts per million of Boron already blended into its ad pack & see if it'll yield the same or better results, as you could do this for way less of your gold.
Not one vehicle manufacturer world wide specifies, nor installs this, or any other after market lube additive product at the factory, nor specifies its use in their scheduled maintenance call outs. But its your ride & money & if you think you can't get the same or better results than with a specified lube, have at it, its not likely to cause any thing other than a lightening of your wallet!!!!
Another resurrection of an old thread. This stuff has been around for about 10 years or so & here is a link to a VOA that shows what was, or was not in it about two years ago, so who knows whats in it now, but then it was mostly mineral oils with about 4% boron & who knows what else, as it doesn't say it was tested to, or meets any lube spec!!!! Motokote - Bob Is The Oil Guy
Your giving it too much credit... at 4ppm your looking at 0.0004% boron and some 20 wt base stocks. It just might cure male pattern baldness as well as keep your engine running for 1 million billion miles with a stout add pack like that.
