Going to replace Busted Engine and Tranny in 83 Brono XL. Currently has a busted 302. No clue on the Tranny....I am looking for input on a good engine and tranny (remanufactured) to replace both with. What type and manufacture would you folks get? Money is a semi issue, not looking for top grade and such....just reliable and figure that I would go ahead and replace the tranny same time since already have engine out and rather not have another 302. Appreciate any input.
4.0L is a good choice and it has been done before. Easy enough to find a blow A4LD in a 4.0L Aerostar or Explorer 4x4 to get everything cheap.

If there is no adapter most likely a T-5 if a manual or a C-4 if automatic. Automatic is easy, just count the pan bolts or look on the bellhousing, pass. side for big letters.
I have seen 2.3L with 5 speeds in BIIs on E-Bay. Supposedly people have done the TBird turbo swap, never seen that though. That might be a okay swap as long you can stand it being slow.
Supposedly someone did a Perkins diesel swap. I think a diesel would be kind of neat and good on gas.
BroncoKid, would you be talking about a full size Bronco? Not a BroncoII? Even so, the 351 Windsor is a good choice as has been mentioned. The C4 or the C6 have been used along with the 351 in some of the full size Broncos from the late 80's to the late 90's, so you should be able to find what you need from them. Jasper is a pretty well known reman company that has a fair warranty. You should have a good local trans shop that could rebuild a trans and give you a good warranty on it.
