So my F100's inline 6 busted on me and i need to do a swap, I found a 302 fuel injected engine with a 4 speed from a 86 f 150, would it be a pain to swap it in if my original tranny was an automatic?
Somewhat of a pain. You will have to get the frame brackets off the v8 truck, and that might require drilling/grinding the rivets out. You will need a different radiator and other various pieces to get it in there. The 6 cyl tranny will work, but you will need to buy the proper flexplate/flywheel to make it work.
The later 6 cylinder trucks have the v8 frame stands, the I6 stands are in addition to. The C6 auto will bolt up with an 82+ 302/C6 flexplate. Ditch the EFI stuff and run a carb and duraspark II.
Also, you might need a different front cover as the efi engines don't have the provision for the mechanical pump, but that's not a huge deal.

If that is true, then you might have to take the six cylinder stands off so they won't get in the way of the v8.
And yes I didn't pick up on that, you will need to convert the later FI engine to carb and regular distributor ignition.
