oil pressure

my oil pressure idiot gage went out, so i got a real pressure gage that i replaced it with. now i am curious what pressures i should be hoping to see.

from 0 - 3 seconds after starting cold, it reads 0, then bumps up to 50 PSI. when warm it idles at 20 PSI and runs at 50 PSI.

is this normal? what do you guys see?

1995 F250 7.3 PSD.

that sounds right for any motor, i have never had to do a lowpressure oil test on a ps diesel, its always been high pressure checks, if there was no high pressure oil and the ipr was good and no leaks then you would just inspect to see if the resevoir was filling, otherwise i pulled the pump and inspected...lol

I don't think a psd will run with no oil pressure. It takes oil to fire the injectors.

your readings are right to what my truck runs. 25 idling warm, 50 running down the road warm, 75 when cold.

i hooked my gage to the small rectuangular box in front of my fuel filter. isn't that my HPOP? are these pressures suitable for that application?

thanks for the replies so far!

Those are the same pressures I see on mine also. BTW where on the HPOP reservoir did you put yours? I tried that but couldn't find any o-ring fittins that would work.

okay- thanks for the clarification. i took out the sensor that drives the stock idiot gage, and stuck a threaded compression fitting in that hole. then i ran copper tube up into the cab where my manual gage is located. i suck at electrical stuff, so i haven't yet figured out how to illuminate the face, but that i a different thread i suppose.

Be careful for leaks. You removed an o-ring fitting and replaced it with a non o-ring. Just watch for leaks.
