Heres maybe an odd question, maybe not. I have the orignal tranny in my 65 f100, it has the 352. Now i was wandering, is it possible to regear the tranny to get a more streetable gearing out of it? I dont need th granny gear.
I have never heard of anyone making aftermarket different size gears for these. You should have either the NewProcess435(aluminum top) or a BorgWarner T-18. The Problem I see is the Granny gear is not a synchronized gear. Meaning you need to be fully stoped in able to shift into it and it does not like to let you pull out of it to shift into another gear. So even if you were able to make this gear taller it would be annoying. The easiest way to make this gear more "streetable" is to change out your rear end gearing to a taller gear.
Not sure if it's possible to change the gear ratio for the compound low, posting couple of web site came across who may be able to answer the question, or perhaps a more knowledgeable member can advise. knowledgeable member can advise.
Think the gear ratio is same or simular from 2nd thru 4th on the NP, and or T18 as the standard 3 speed transmission. With the T18 on my 65 consider it a 3 speed with an extra rarely used gear. Came in handy on couple of occasions but in past 35 years of use probably can count number of times used on one hand.
Ill have to find the post where Bill decoded the numbers for me, but if i remember correctly, its the new prossess. Well, it was just an idea cause i want more streetable gearing with out having to dump the orignal tranny. As, im not garenteed i wont have to cut some of the floor boards for a new tranny, and that i am not willing to do. Oh well i guess.
What manual transmissions are there that have a more car like ratio that i can drop in with out cutting the floor boards?
FE352, You have a 40 year old work truck. Your engine was discontinued in 76. Anything that you go to other than a C6 auto will cost you big bucks. There are 4 spd top loaders (if you can get your hands on one), 3 spd column shifters with overdrive (not many of those left either) choices are slim.
I converted mine to C6 auto and let it shift it's own gears.
lol You can't blame a guy for asking, ya know? Shifting is fine with me, I rather enjoy it. I roll through 18 gears alday long lol , so shirting is old hat. But anyway, that answers all my questions gentalmen, thank you.
You can get a Borg Warner T10 from a Ford passenger car(or new) and it will fit your truck bellhousing. I ran one in my '66 for several years before upgrading to the Toploaders. There are two different input shaft lengths but either will work with minimal effort.
