hello, im changing out a bad comprssor in an 03 taurus with the duratec v-6. i bought a used compressor online, and was wondering if when i bolt my new compressor up do i have to ad oil to it before i bolt on the manifold, or can i bolt everything up and then take it to a shop to have it oiled , vacuumed, charged and checked..... ive got 2 new seals for the manifold before i bolt it up thanks

What you do all depends on the failure mode of the original compressor.
-Clutch failure or a leak: Drain the old compressor and add back the same amount to the drained replacement compressor, adjusting for any oil lost during the swap. (Have the shop add it while charging). A used compressor from an unknown donor vehicle is never a good idea. You might get lucky, but the odds are against you.
-Internal compressor failure or siezure: New accumilator, new orifice, new condenser, system flush, and add the factory specified amount of oil. If you just replace the compressor, it won't matter if you add oil or not. The orifice will be plugged and the system won't work anyway.
