Second time posting I own a 08 F 350 KR Long Box, When I pull my fiver 13000 lbs I get a shutter when initially starting off read in a thread others have this same problem. Was advise that ford had a TSB out on this. Went to a dealer and they ordered a shim kit for this problem. However the service adviser at Ford does not believe this will fix the problem, Has anyone had these shims installed and did they correct the shutter. Any info would be appreciated
I assume you are talking about shims for the carrier bearing on the driveshaft. Most lift kits come with shims to adjust the driveline angle after the lift is completed to get rid of the shutter you are talking about on take off.
In your case it sounds like the 5th wheel is making the rear of the truck squat far enough that the driveline angle changes enough to cause the shutter. You would have to remove material from under the carrier bearing in order to correct for that. Look under your truck and see if there are shims under the carrier bearing already. If so remove some and see if the shutter goes away. One problem you may find though, is if you get the vibration to go away when your 5th wheel is hooked up, you may end up creating a new vibration when the truck is unloaded.
Ive got 99 sd350 4x4, 4r100 auto, shuddered when loaded or romped, rebuilt 4r100 with Factory Tech Monster in a Box + B&M Racing Taskmaster torque conv., problem solved. BIG TIME!! An auto tc has a lock up rpm. They can slip and heat up until given the chance to lockup. I hate it when anyone has issues with such an expensive new truck.
I solved most of my shudder with a set of Timbrens--doesn't allow the rear to squat so much that the carrier bearing/ujoint bind. also helps to keep foot out of it til I get rolling about 5mph.
