I have a 2004 power stroke 6.0L diesel with the following specs:
10 inch lift
38 inch Mickey Thompsons
Magnum Force Intake
Chipped with the Evolution - Edge
Currently I am only getting about 11 mpg, and people I have spoken with said I should be getting about 15 mpg. I have the truck set chipped to Level 1 - Trans Only. I was told that I may be able to adjust the settings on the Evolution to get better gas mileage, however no one can give me specifics.
Any ideas on what I should take a look at or what settings I should be using on the Evolution?
Wow, with those tires I would not be complaining about 11 mpg. I have an 04 and get around 11 to 13 city, with 295's. If I keep my exhaust temps no higher than 850 degrees I can get 14 to 15 mpg city. But its too boring!
Well did you re-gear the axles for the larger tires and wheels?
If not this is part of the problem.
Also did you recalibrate the PCM so that the speedometer/odometer is now correct for the larger tires and wheels?
If the speed sensor signal has not been recalibrated in the PCM for the larger tires and wheels then the PCM is not getting accurate information and so performance and mileage are off.
BTW since you are running 38 inch tires a "Truspeed" module may be needed to correct the speed sensor signal.
w/ 38" tires an aftermarket speedo calibrating unit is definantely needed. The dealer can only adjust the oem module in the truck for 35" tires.
11mpg isn't too bad for what you've got. I've only got 35" tires, brand new motor, and running Matt's agg. street econo and I got about 14.5mpg on my first tank of about 85% highway and 15% city.
