My new truck came in last night, crew cab v10 etc...My problem is that it did not come with the factory navigation system that I ordered, instead it has the 6 disc player. So which is better--to order the factory navigation and have Ford put it in or does the aftermarket have something similar or even better? Thanks for your help

I think the best thing is to get the truck you ordered.... Aftermarket will be better then the stock stuff, but if you paid for the NAV, I would either:
From what my salesman says, they can order a nav system and install it later or I can purchase an aftermarket system and they will still cover the aftermarket nav system under the factory warranty because they (Ford) screwed up. I just want to know if the aftermarket has something better.
Aftermarket has much better stuff available, and you can usually get more features and better sound for less money. One of the most popular units here is the Pioneer AVIC-D3. My personal preference however is for the Kenwood units. Either the DDX-7019 with add on KNA-G510 navigation unit, or the DNX-7100 with built in navigation.
Here are some links to the units at a site that I have found to have good pricing and customer service. They are not a factory certified dealer, but warranty all the items they sell for 1 year themselves.
With these units you can also get cables to hook your ipod directly to the unit and control it from thier touchscreens, and bluetooth car kits to wirelessly connect to your phone and allow you to answer calls hands free. If you would like more information about these units feel free to ask, or do a search. They have been talked about in quite a few threads recently.
Also, check out my gallery for pics of a Kenwood unit installed in my truck. I think it integrates well.
Thanks beerstalker, that's exactly what I am looking for. It looks good in your truck too. I especially like the feature of adding a rear view camera, I do not think you can add a camera to the stock unit, although the Job 2 trucks might have a monitor in the mirror which is way too small for my taste. That Kenwood DNX7100 looks awesome and not a bad price, about the same as stock. How does it sound with the stock speakers?

i have the 7100 in my 05. got it for under a grand.
Hey Beerstalker, Have you bought anything threw that website they look like they have some pretty good deals and is the NAV/Head unit combo worth it or should I do them seperate seems like alot of stuff on one machine I would just hate to spend a grand and not be happy I would think I would want the NAV unit seperate so I could take it in someone elses vehicle if I had to or my other trucks.
I have bought from Sonic Electronix about 6 times now. I only had 1 problem. One of my orders got lost in shipping and it took about a month to get sorted out. I think that was mostly due to the shipping company though, not Sonic Electronix. Other than that they have been great.
As far as buying them together or seperate that is up to you. I have the DDX6019 and the KNAG510 add on nav unit. I bought the 6019 when it first came out, and they didn't have the 7100 with nav built in, so I had to get the add on unit. I personally like having them seperate though, in case something goes wrong. Either way though, the KNAG510 wouldn't be something you could just pull out and put to swap back and forth between vehicles. You would have to get a hand held nav unit if you wanted to do that. And the difference in price between the 7100 and 7019 would probably get you a decent handheld unit.
I just installed the AVIC-D3 into a car this weekend along with the CD-BTB200 Bluetooth Module.. Lets just say I'm not impressed..
- The screen is slightly smaller (no biggie)..
- Can't listen to cd's while in nav but you can manage the IPod or Radio..
- GPS is ok to an extent, it takes too damn long however to know I missed the turn before it bothers doing anything.. My Garmin will immediately tell my stupid self that I missed the turn and auto redirect..
- The bluetooth is horrible, absolutely horrible.. The thing will pair with the Apple IPhone, however it wont transfer the phone book.. It will also connect with my Palm Treo 750 however, once again it will not transfer the phone book.. Anytime you go to transfer it, bluetooth turns off.. Now I know the Iphone prob not due to it being brand new, but the Palm Treo line has been around for awhile, I should be able to transfer my phone book.
- Also the Mp3 CD display sucks.. I have the AVH-P6800DVD in my F250.. I can surf folders whenever I want and it's FAST.. The D3, you move out of one folder into another folder, it automatically starts the first song in the folder.. Say your listening to Ice Ice Baby and you wanna bust out MC Hammer after.. But its in another folder.. So you think, ok its got bout 45 seconds, enough time for me to go to the other folder and select it when its time right? Wrong! Once you move to that new folder, it stops..
So all in all.. I paid over $1500 for all of it and install.. I'm not impressed.. It didn't even go in my freaking truck... It was a present for a family member..
If the Garmin setup in the Kenwood is anything like the NUVI, I'd be hooked. I really really liked the NUVI I used for a trip. At $800 or so then, it better have worked as well as it did! I liked being able to walk the town with the NUVI, but didn't like it being stuck on the windshield, so can't have the best of both worlds!
On the 7100, any idea how you update? The NUVI had a little card you could get updates on.

I know I'm a little late in the conversation but you can also check out the integrated navigation system that we offer. It looks as if the product is OEM and doesn't get stolen like a lot of the portable devises do.
The KNAG510 and the DNX7100 both update using SD memory cards. You can download the updates straight from Garmin for $80 I think. I've been told there are other places to download updates and POIs for it also, but I haven't bothered with it yet.
