Hello I have a bone stock 75 460 with the D20E-AB heads. I havn't got it to run yet but I installed a zero degree timing chain kit, and a pro-comp HEI distributor. My brother had a 429 in his 72 cougar that he wrecked and the heads are c8ve e. There is only 3000 miles on the heads since they've been rebuit. What would I have to change to these heads to put them on my 460. I don't wanna spend to much money, and I don't know to much about motors yet, as i'm only a first level apprentice
The best thing you can do is get a pushrod measuring tool. There are articles online on how to make your own, too.
It is essentially a pushrod that has threads to allow it to be lengthened or shortened to achieve proper geometry.
If you have roller tip rockers, you want the tip to be contacting the valve at the intake side of the valve tip when valve is closed, at the center at valve mid-lift, and on the exhaust side of tip when valve is fully open.
There are a lot of variables when purchasing pushrods, including whether or not the head has been milled. (shorter)
Use this Comp Cams tech page as a guide. http://www.compcams.com/information/Products/Pushrods/
if the heads you have are D2OE, then they are the police interceptor heads and are a lot better then the C8VE heads. they have bigger valves and ports (cross between the standard heads and cobra jet heads).
check that number again. the D2VE heads were garbage and only good as boat anchors, while the D20E heads are the second best factory heads available.
do a port job, good 3 angle valve job and rebuild and you have a good set of heads.
