General Homemade Upgrades

Hey hows it goin everyone i just joined this forum and was wondering about some simple homemade mods to my 1997 ford PS that a broke college student could make or build himself. I am currently working at a transmission shop and about to have the tranny rebuilt with newer and improved internals along with a increasing pressure pump box and the aftermarket shift kit. So anything to help increase performance or hp that you guys can think of would be great. Thanks to CChildress i now have a homemade cold air intake but other than the knocked out converter to twister exauhst im bone stock.

Welcome to FTE, you'll get lots of help spending your $$ here. Before you do any power adders you need to get some suporting mods done. The stock down pipe need to be replaced with an open one. An Exhaust Gas Temp gage is amust unless you want to burn up soem really expensive stuff.

There is a 10K mod you can do without too much damage to the turbo (heat). IF you do this mod and hold your foot to the floor too long the turbo may bite you in the wallet. Others will jump in here with more info.

Hey i really appreciate the info but what am i lookin at on a good not extreme 10 k mod. and help me understand what im lookin at by hp gain. I just want the beast to be rock solid but not be able to break itself with spending the least money. Of course i understand that this is the idea of most everyone without the money but im sure i will get pulled into the pool of spending every dime on my truck when i get a chance.

0-60 in about 7 seconds on a slight upgrade, not bad on 35 inch tires in a 7k+ truck?
no rough idle, stock injectors,

I would start with a DP at the least if not a full exhaust system. Then 10K. Then gauges, then..., then..., then...

Well, you get the point
