is that what you call it? i think i am missing some type of dust cover down there. if you are changing oil or whatnot and you happen to glance over you can see the flywheel and it looks like a cover should be over it. i have not been able to find one.
We are speaking automatic here as your profile shows C-6, that would be the flex plate cover not flywheel cover correct? Flywheel cover would have a deep bulge to clear the flywheel besides it's mounted at app a 45 degree angle vs vertical on a C-6.
You should be able to find them at any Pick-N-Pull or wrecking yard for cheap.
The part number for the C-6 is C6AP-7986-A.
thanks beemer, there are no wrecking yards around here unfortunately, but i have been looking on ebay. and all i find on there is what you are describing that has a bend to it, and is probly for a manual trans, yes i have an automatic
You want that sealed up for the winter to keep water grit and rocks out of the starter and ring gear besides the converter seal and neck of the converter. A simple piece of 16 gauge tin will work that's what original was.
Hell I can make you a paper pattern off of one on a paper bag material and mail it to ya, cut the pattern out, center punch and drill 4 holes get 4 cap bolts bingo your covered.
My new to me used Hypertherm plasma cutters at the Miller shop getting checked out other wise one could be cut out.
There must be other members who would have a spare one as they are common in Pick N Pulls or other walk in and unbolt yourself places.
If not PM me with your mailing address i'll send ya a paper pattern.
.....Carl.....
Yup, for me it's always been easier to just make one rather then digging around for one in a salvage yard...Heck, if you want to get fancy, cut one out of aluminum and polish it!!!!!
Really you just want to cover anything that can get jammed up, like your flywheel, Take one of these guys up on their offer, or cover it with anything yo can afford.
thanks for the help beemer, i will try it on my own, and then if i fail i'll let u know.
apparently its been uncovered for a long long time because i asked the old guy down the street whom i bought the truck, and he says he never noticed it.
