302 E150 van timing marks?

302 E150 van timing marks?
I see the timing marks on the flywheel. But what pointer do they line up with? I see a number of metal features in the obvious area.
There's an small hollow cylinder (maybe 1/2" wide and deep) on a metal protrusion over the flywheel, then (looking clockwise as viewed from the radiator) the metal goes back towards the engine. There's a bit of a semicircle cut out the metal at its shallowest point, then it heads towards the flywheel and covers the flywheel's edge it again. The rest is totally concealed under engine components until you look on the bottom side. So what out of this am I looking for?
