I have to agree with Dave and I run a Hypermax right now. It's nice unit but when I get the extra money I'm going ATS as it gives you many more power options.

I will ad the ATS, much easier to control the boost having
a turbo with waste gate.
I got the donor motor yesterday, -93IDI with 120-150.000 miles on it,
I'll see what cavitation and pour oil have done to it.
Hopefully it can be turned into a nicely running tuned up IDI.
I'll be back, hunting you guys down for some answers as my project are
limping forward.
Have to tell, here in Norway there are hardly none having knowledge about US IDI's, even the Ford dealership sucks.
Also parts can be hard to find, reasonable prized.
Since the last IDI was produced in 1994, finding a shop with a mechanic that can work on an IDI is not an easy task here in the USA, even at the dealership.

what more power options does ATS give? and whats the difference between the ATS and hypermax turbo?
im going to be adding a turbo pretty quick here and i was sold on the hypermax turbo...but you guys might have just changed my mind!
im not a big fan of the ATS turbo kit for one reason, its alot harder to do maintmance and its alot harder to install than the sidewinder kit. other than that its a good turbo kit, but i prefer the sidewinder over ats
The advantage is the waste gate.
The wastegate allows the turbo to be more aggressive at lower RPM producing more boost, and then at high RPM the waste gate opens to prevent over boost from causing engine damage.
Also the waste gate can be adjusted for max boost pressure.
A non waste gated turbo only has the fuel setting, exhaust restriction and intake restriction as a way to adjust the boost level.
So they tend to be a little less aggressive to keep the heads on the engine and the head gaskets in place.
Tell me of a Hypermax making mid 20's for boost and I will change my mind.
