what is the difference in the headliners that are perforated and non perforated? I found both styles on BOTP. Also, I want one that is black... do I buy one that says that it is paintable? or is there somewhere that has them black already?
Go to a local shoe repair shop and buy you some nu-life color spray. There are about 100 colors to choose from. Takes 45 minutes to dry. You might want to prep the vinyl surface by lightly rubbing some nu-life preparer on there.
I spray leather and vinyl with this stuff all of the time, and it works GREAT.
(Hate to dig up an old post, but am looking for a headliner, and thought i would put my .02 in)
The possibilities are endless. I used vinyl dye on my dash pad, arm rests, door panels and sun visors, and after 2 years, they still look good (even the arm rests). My headliner, I used outdoor carpet glue, and covered it in tan leather I found in a fabric shop. The same shop had headliner material in several different colors, that you attach very easily with spray glue. I have less than $50 in my leather headliner (see link below), including the overhead console I bought on ebay for $12. You can go with a headliner from a local jobber, or fabricate your own the way you want it. Just throwing out some ideas!
x2 on the vinyl dye. I used it on my dash pad. Apply with a spray gun attached to a compressor. I got the dye here www.parasolinc.com
They were great with answering questions after the purchase. With the vinyl dye it is crucial that you clean the surface with a solvant.

I applied mine the same way, spray gun and compressor. It comes pre-mixed and ready to spray. I used a 3M automotive cleaner/degreaser to wipe them down before spraying.
The Nu-life color spray is consistent and easy to use. You don't need a compressor or anything, it's just an aerosol can. If you use the deglazing fluid (preparer) it holds up really well... We use this product to dye shoes all of the time, and even with all of the flexing and dings shoes get, people are very satisfied with it. You can get a can for about 8 bucks, and I think you could easily do a headliner with 2 cans. Just do multiple light coats.
