Very interesting, I'll have to look a bit closer at the steering shaft in the 94 cab I have sitting waiting to go on my truck. I'm pretty sure that thing had a rag joint tho, I know it had a u-joint at the column.. All of the older stuff I've been around(owned 7 of these personally, and have worked on many) and I've never seen a u-joint at the lower end of the shaft.
Now you guys got me wondering.I looked at the steering
When it comes out of the fire wall it has some sort of a clamp bolt with a black rubber sleave just under it ,I pushed down the sleave and there is some kind of hadr plastic shim that goes inside the clamp bolt. Now going down just befor the box I have a type of plate system with what lloks like a rubber in between them , like on a old ski doo trake if you can follow me.it hs two set pins and two bolts to keep it to gether.
At the other end of the box it goes directly into the rods.
I sure hope you can follow this one!!!
I'll check it tomorrow, Is it posible that the rubber in between is shot?
I have a new box for it but it's300 $ and i'd love to take it back if its just something simple!
I screwed down the ajustment on the pressent one and It did help, But not fully
Some one mentioned sway bars to me and said the front one seemed rather thin and there is no back one, do you think it will help!!!
just change rag out on both trucks a couple of weeks ago 85/90 someone said if i go to a 95 and up they have a different system to up grade it if this is true then i will let y'all know but either way pain in the but to do but well worth the ride after
I changed the fiber one, in my '85, for the newer rubber one. It's a P&P swap.
How are the trailing arm bushings. You'll fight till your crazy, if there's play in the bushings. I changed mine to poly, and still had some wander. I bought a set of tension bushings, and the play/wander is gone. Best thing I did, when I rebuilt the front end.
that is the next thing to do the axel pivot bushings and the radial arm also have all new tie rod ends and just the full front end now have to get the cast off the leg to finish ole Bessy up
