Was that on the 91 F350....... sounds a little high. Did you get a quote first.... Was it done at Ford or a local front end garage. Would be tuesday before I could check the shop price parts and labour here... what was the labour rate there and I will get hours listed.
That price may be a good price or not. That depends on the price of the pins and how tough they came out. I have seen pins that really didn't want to come out and I have spent 12 hours getting them out and I have done my share of them. I have a set to put in next sometime on an IH tandem dump. To many things can come up on a job like this.
that job can ge very very labor intensive,700 sounds resonable. i once spent over a grand getting my front end done on a 82 f250. ball joints can be even worse to do. people dont relize how much labor can be involved.
Yah, I wonted to do them myslef but every one told me not to.
The shop rate was 754 an hour and it toke 7 hours, I supplied the pins the cost me 107$ for the set, the shop was going to chargr me 100.$ per pin.
It seems to helpwhen Im taking a curve at 50 plus but still have issues I hade to tighten the steering boxs right down and it helped but I think I will replace it with a new one, Is it a big job to do .Is there any tricks to it???
335sounds good
what is the rag joint and what do I check foe??
thax good tips
there is no rag joint by the steering gear box at least not on any ford full size of that year i have worked on,maybe he is thinking dodge i know they have probs with that.
U-joints at the box? interesting, I have seen late 80's and newer trucks with U-joints at the column connection, and 80-87 or so trucks have a closed CV type joint at the column, but, all ove the above have a rag joint hiding under the plastic cover at the steering box... Been there, had that fail....
I'd like to upgrade to an aftermarket setup that does have u-joints at both ends, but, that is $$$$
