I feel your pain Baitmaster. I bought 2 rear tires for Mustang and it cost me $400...for 2 stupid tires. But, then again, I do tend to spin out alot. Damned if you do, it's boring if ya don't.
The tires I'm looking at (35x12.5x18) for my F-150 are gonna cost me $1400 for 4 tires. Which is probably why I keep doing the cheaper mods.
That 18" number is what shoots the price up. 35" don't help. That's going to put you in the 10 MPG range. My tires aren't near that big. I'm happy when I hit 12 MPG
I'm with big red. The 18" tires are just expensive. 35s are going to make the truck a dog on acceleration, unless you spend a extra $1500 on regearing.
I think 33s are good enough for these trucks(don't want to hurt the towing or MPG!)
With the price of tires for 18s, I bought a set of 17" wheels and tires for less than tires alone for 18s.
I paid $600 total for 17" expediton wheels and 34" swampers.
OK, I just traded my 07 GT Mustang 5sp(4.6/3.55 axle) with SCT/93 Race BamaCips tune and JLT CAI w/ Flowmasters, which had the same hp, 300, as my new FX4(5.4/3.73 axle). So far I added dual Mangnaflows and a ROUSH CAI. Performance comparisons between the two are night and day. Sure, I understand everything about tunes, torque(actually the F150 has more), throttle lag, power to weight ratio, flywheel HP vs. RWHP, etc, etc,etc... But, you'd think that this truck could peel out on heavy acceleration... nada! I'm sure the 20" OEM wheels may have a little to do with it, but still... It's as though it has traction contol. I will be going with a SCT/BamaChips set-up in the near future. I was wondering whether this is common? Can anyone out there peel out, in a streight line, with their stock F150? Thanks
Nope, I cannot do it with the 06 F150, 5.4.
Buuuttttt I can do it with my 06 Mustang GT, wit borla, and AEM and a tuner!
Haa,haa, haa, and mine is just a lowley auto!!!
My Mustage is a sleeper. It looks totaly stock. Dude I am 55 years old. I love smokin' em at a green. Especially when some whipper snapper like yourself is at the wheel next to me!

yep...I was wanting to get 35x12.5x20 so there is less sidewall flex. but I can't afford the $3,500 it will cost me.
I get ~15 mpg city right now, and my Mustang has never dipped below 18 mpg (it's the DD), so I'm not really all that concerned about losing MPG. I figure if I bite the bullet, I might go all the way and supercharge it at the same time. and/or slap some 4.56 gears
hey Smokestone, want to have some more fun? I've got an auto also. Put the car in 1st gear, turn off O/D and Traction Control. Let off the brake and stab the gas. My car is a completely different animal vs. just nailing it in Drive.
My Lincoln TC , Mercury Grand Marquis, T-Bird TurboCoupe 77 F350 Crew will all spin, but NOT my 07 4.2 V-6! Just a chirp! Like Big Red C222, I should know better at 60, but I had to try. Disappointing.......but, I guess I won't have to worry about getting any tickets for Speed Display!
