I am in the process of moving, which entails towing a trailer from south Texas to Connecticut. The trailer will weigh about 5k. My question is should I get a VB from Brian's of DP tuner. I can only get one or the other right now. I currently have the tuner from Superchips, I do have gauges as well.
I'd get the VB first since you have the other stuff. 5k isn't a lot of weight for these trucks, but getting the VB now will make it much easier for you WHEN you get the DP. Definitely get the DP when you can -- I got the DP first, and now I'll have to send it back for a reflash when I get my tranny done.
i don't tow much but i went with the dp, the biggest thing i have towed is 1) 17 ft bay boat 3k and a 17 bass boat 1.5k but if you went with the dp you would be happy and never think twice about it. just my 2 ct
I would also get the vb first. It would benifit you the most since you already have a Superchips. Just remember to tell Brian to set vb to match the DP Tuner for the future.
i looked all through Racerguys acronyms & definitions list, could not find VB. So, what is VB
Sorry -- sometimes we get even more crazy with acronyms than the military here on FTE!! VB = Valve Body. The one that is upgraded is actually the accumulator valve body which controls shift times and holding pressure. The 4R100 is a pretty good tranny, but it was designed for long, comfortable shifts instead of holding the gears as hard as possible and shifting as short as possible. That means lots of clutch wear and lots of heat generation when they slip. Simply changing the VB either by replacing it with a modified one or doing it yourself with a kit makes a huge difference in the life of the tranny.

So that is no big deal to run the vb setup for Jody's tunes before you get the chip? Say get vb now and wait till Christmas for the chip...Grandma, I have an idea for my list!!!
