Swapping out a 4.2
I have 1999 F-150 regular cab XLT 4x4 4.2 with 5-speed stick. I have put on a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, JET chip and 3" cat back exhaust.
Trouble is I want more power and my motor has 165,000 miles on it. A v-8 is for sure my answer but would I be better to find a 4.6 or 5.4 and tranny plus wiring have it rebuilt. Or rip it all out and go cabuerated with a 302 or other crate engine. I found a 2003 with the 5.4 and 5-speed is there any chance my tranny will work if I purchased a 5.4 and found the wiring harness and computer?
Any input would be most helpful in this.
Thank You Brad
