OK, first of all the check engine light is still on, the code for insuficient egr flow, repleced the whole system and cleaned everything, used al ford parts, still on and the dealer doesn't know either. But in the last 2 weeks the trucks shudders in OD when going up anyhill at all whether at 45 or 80mph. Now the truck truck studders when going up hills or acalerating from stop. It has a new air filter and the plugs and wires were changed within the last 3500miles? anyone have any idead on any of this?
sorry for the spelling and thanks in advance for anyone who replies.
i just cleaned the maf about a thousand miles ago when i changed the air filter. do ford plugs really go bad in less than 3500miles, at 6 bucks a pop i certainly hope not
i just changed the fuel filter no more than 5k miles ago. the engine sputtering under any load above 1/4 throttle just started literaly over night. and the OD acting funny started about 2 weeks ago and has gotten progesivley worse. i had changed the transmision fluid and filter and diff. fluids about 3-4k miles ago all with mobil1. i got enough tranny fluid out to put about 14 quarts back into it and the level hasnt moved at all. could it be something other than the transmision? because it only does it in OD. And wouldn't a bad cop throw a code? I,ve had the codes pulled again yesterday and its still just the egr code. Oh yeah the truck only gets premium and not at any discount gas stations and ive driven since empty and refilled at a different station so i dont think it was just a batch of bad gas. if anyone has any input i thank you for it in advance. this truck is driving me to my limits. it's just one problem after another no matter how much i take care of it and baby it. I love ford but this one must have been dropped when they built it.
Have you reset your computer to get rid of the old codes? I've heard that when you change the tranny fluid and filter you don't get the stuff out of the torque converter. After the first change of fluid on my 94' T-bird it started slipping instead of shuddering between 2nd and 3rd. When I changed the tranny fluid and filter the second time it started working correctly.
I got a 99 4.6 , let me ask you a question. When you put it at wide open throttle does it hesitate and all of a sudden at the last 1000 to 1500 rpm's before redline it just takes off? Kinda like a 50 shot of nitrous would feel. If it does than we have the same problem and I can't figure it out either. Going on a year and a bunch of headache. Let me know
if its related to the code, i might guess a vacuum hose leak on the DPFE area. If not, then a trans oil change is a good bet for converter shudder.-- erase the code and see if ti comes back.
Double check your fluid requirements for the trans,i believe it's needs mercon 5. Also if the tps is glitchy you can end up with "stacked" shifts and the pcm won't command proper line pressure rise for the trans. do check the connections at the DPFE sensor, one always seems to get excessive corrosion build-up where the hose connections are. make sure the hoses are in good condition, if you have to replace one they are a special material tolerant to exhaust gases.
ive been having the egr problem for the last 8-9 months and this has just started. i used the mobil 1 atf fluid, it says its compatable with mercon v systems. and wouldnt the problem have been noticable when i first changed the fluid? all the vacuum lines are connected and there are no leaks. i duhno im stumped and hopefully i wont have to take it to the shop this month. the truck costs more to repair than the payments and insurance. Not a happy owner of this truck anymore.
You can check leaking vaccum lines with a UNLIT propane torch, run the torch by all vaccum lines. If the engine speed changes then you have found the leak.
