When I turn the wheel either direction on my 04 EB 6.8 X the power steering makes a noise that sounds like an old door creaking open and close. I don't recall this being like this before, and can even hear it drivng if the windows are down. the noise stops as soon as I stop turning the steering wheel.
I checked the power steering fluid and topped off, still getting noise. It is coming only from the left front and seems like it is one of the bushings just on the inside of the wheel. I tried lubing it and got a little decrease in the noise...what do you think, time for the dealer....
I'm out of suggestions...sorry...one and done i guess!...
Hopefully someone will chime in with an idea for you...
Is the truck still under some extended warranty or something?...if not...you may want to find a good local guy you trust as stealerships get their name for a reason!
Ball joints would be my guess as that's why I replaced mine. The factory Ball joints have no grease fitting, if you have replacement Ball Joints you may have grease fittings and could try to grease them.
Check your ball joints... my Mercedes was making the same creaking noise when the wheel was turned and it turned out to be a dry ball joint.
Hope this helps...
Check your ball joints... my Mercedes E500 was making the same creaking noise when the wheel was turned and it turned out to be a dry ball joint. This was replaced under my warranty. But I suspect you have a bad joint and it could fail. You might have someone turn the wheel and listen for the sound.
