Friend or not that is some serious BS. An exhaust has no capability of hurting these trucks at all. The only warranty they can void is on the exhaust pipes, muffler, and cat. Mainly becuase they don't exist. Keep your relationship just friends and move on man cause the only service your getting is from his lips.

A bad injector might, but a fuel pump.....no. An injector MIGHT show up as a cylinder contribution code if it gets bad enough.

well I feel better now, these things run enough on computer input as it is, eventhough the 6 oh will flat get it on this is another reason where the 7.3 shines.

OK, so a fuel pump will not give a code, but will it give intermittent problems. Say it works great 95% of the time and then just goes to half capacity for a couple of minutes then works fine again?

Not usually, unless you have a wiring problem of some sort. Give us a little vehicle info and when is the last time you changed both your fuel filters? Maybe we can get it figured out.

First instance was about three weeks ago. Low RPMs OK, anything above 1500 signficant reduction in power and studder. Would not turn higher than about 2000 RPM. Lasted about 3 miles, then ran fine. I changed the fuel filters when I got home. Monday of this week pulled out of driveway and about 100 yards all but shutdown. Even at idle it was like a gasser with half the plug wires off. Restarted 3 times and it ran OK rest of the day. When I got home I changed the oil and filter and the fuel filters again. Tuesday morning it was fine for about 3 miles then would not turn over 2000 RPMs. Cleared up after a couple of miles. Wednesday morning same thing except it lasted 10 miles.
This is a 2004 6.0 PSD 69000 miles. No work on this truck except a flash while the previous owner had it.
Thanks for the help.

That sounds more like an EGR problem to me. Take it in and let the dealer do it for the $100 deductible if they're competent. They will probably (or should) replace it if that's the problem. I think it's about $350 new, so worth taking it in. They can plug it in to IDS and see what's going on. If it doesn't give them a code then it's very possibly a wiring harness problem. At worst you'll get the new inductive heating flash, if it's not already there, and it's worth a trip just for that.

Pulled the EGR and cleaned it last night. It had a lot of build up, soft and oily. Fairly easy to clean.

I road tested after I finished and the problem is still there. I will take to dealer shop as soon as I can. Thanks for your input and I will post outcome when I get it done.

Last night I removed my fuel tank. Two reasons, check for anything blocking the pickup and to finally do the harpoon. Found nothing, but I replaced all the fuel with new. No performance problems today.

No problems for two weeks, then a couple of days ago I began to have low power again. Like it had a RPM limiter or something, just wouldn't turn over 2500 and began to decrease in the maximum. Yesterday afternoon as I pulled into my drive it all but quit. Very hard skip at all speeds. I started the engine this morning and it seemed to run better until it began to reach operating temperature, then it would hardly run even at idle. Injecters? High pressure pump?
Rollback will be here tomorrow morning to take it to shop.

Just talked to the shop. The repair is finished. Replaced the fuel pump and injector #1. And the latest flash.

Didn't want to start, tried again, started but barely running, tried the gas, nothing, just barely running. No warning lights came on, nothing. If my 98 F150 even hicupped the engine warning light would come on! Did this 3 more times, called them to get it, sat in dealer 3 days, nothing shows on diagnosics so sent me home. Running fine now but when will it do it again?!!! Sounds very similar to your problem. I've also noticed a slight hesitation when taking off from a stop and then it takes off. Hasn't done anything since picking it up from the dealer. Running great. Let us know what you hear!
I know it's a late update but I took my truck to Bartow Ford (Florida) and the problem described above was taken care of along with a new climate control. They didn't need to replicate the problem unlike the other dealer I had always dealt with! It was a 2 hour drive and they had my truck for a week but I was an hour away doing some business when my speedometer went nuts and I figured I'd just make the drive and it was worth it. Seems they have diesel mechanics that know what they are doing! They had to replace the whole instrument panel too. Needless to say, with only 34,000 miles on I went inside and purchased the extended warranty. I hated the price but with the things that have already went wrong I need the peace of mind! Thanks for all the info. I still get on here and absorb all I can! And have learned to not accept one dealer's explanation. Seek until you are satisfied!
