The reason people put Shivvy motors in the earlier trucks is because it's harder to fab in a newer Ford motor.
Apparently they don't have enough fab skills/money/time, etc. to do it right.
If you own a Ford it should have a Ford in it. Just my 2 cents.

I wish I could have found a good 354. They have a lot better heads than the Desoto. I guess 400hp in an 1,800 lb car will have to do.
One of the hotrod magazines is having an engine build off with 29 builders competing. So far a 1954 331 is in the lead against all the modern fuel injected roller motors.
I am still finnishing the Mustang for the wife and to double as a cruiser. It just has a mild 351W. I just put a new small block in the truck and also am planning to paint the F100 this coming spring so the "T" has to wait. The garage is full.

I like to see my dizzy in the front - I always look for a dizzy in the front.
Build what you like - Ford body/build with a Ford engine seems Kosher to me.
I'm a Ford guy, but I am having a hard time looking at the new stuff coming out of the plants these days.
On another note - I don't care too much for Harley-Davidson, but I need HD parts for my chopper? Kind of the same situation? My bike is Harleyish, can your truck be Fordish?

If you own the truck do what you want with it if it suits your need,
as for me though its only ford in a ford, or merc in a merc, (or mabey merc in a ford ?) I have a merc 8CM flathead V8 in my 35 ford 1 1/2 ton truck.

i have the original 302 (soon to be replaced with a heavily breathed on 385 series) but i must admit, the original suspension was trashed, and i wanted true IFS and disc brakes, so i installed the front end from a 79' chevy. Sorry guys, but it was free and it works.

When I redid mine 5 years ago, I flipped a coin.. heads chevy.. tails fe ford.. tails won, interesting to put one in a Trans am Clip....and yes there is one of those in my Ford truck... I cut up a Smoky & the Bandit Trans am to do it too... best thing I ever did for my old truck....sure wish it had a 4 speed auto though......next time....

i was told by wifey, only ford in our ford. if i cut off anything out of the truck and replace it with a chevy, she meant that she would do the same to me, meaning i would lose a favorite part of me and replace it with what ever she wanted.
so im a ford in a ford only, just to keep wifey happy and myself in tack.

well talking about this since spike came out with their new host of trucks about 1 1/2 ago, one of their first projects was an F-100 i dont remeber the year like a 50s but they got with a different clip on it and it had a 350 in it. I was like alright this will be a cool project but when they said they were sticking to the 350 i was like screw these guys. all it was a 350 with dual quads in the end of the project. after that I hated that pickup cause the fact that it has a 350. The 350s are alright motors but come on if your going to do a project for show dont you want something that will stand out? lets see some new motors in old school cars. I like the idea of a supercharged 5.4 in a F-100. that would be bad A$$. If you have a ford it should have a ford in it. dont be a traitor. it would be like getting to a girls pants and finding something else down there.

one time i got a 48 ford F1 that was all modified in a package deal with another 48 ford F1 that was origional, which i bought for the front end, well anyway it was modified all over including a front clip from a chevelle, what a waist, it went bye bye....
