i fired my truck up yesterday and then it stopped. i think it ran out of gas?? so i have put gas in it, and i turned on and off the ignition a few times as well as tried to start i multiple times and nothing? now i've had to jump the battery, well i just get a buzzing noise or a clicking noise but it will kick over once in a while. but it gets better, now i don't get ANY power when i turn over the key? I'm lost......can anyone help??
The clicking indicates a low battery or a cylinoid that has gone out. To see if its the cylinoid you can take a screw driver or butter knife and make contact from one post to the other. If it still won't turn over then its probably a bad starter. This was the most common problem I had with my fords. Had a lady at a gas station with the hood of her ford up and she couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start since she had just pulled in. Had her turn the key on, made contact and she was off and running again.
Sounds like a bad battery conection, loose or dirty. Also check the conections at the starter soleniod. Have the battery load tested to see if you have a bad cell.
the battery is fairly new, and the connectors to the battery were in pretty bad shape so i replaced the connectors all together. i'm going to sound a little dumb with this question, but the cylinoid is the blue part connecting the battery and the starter?
The solinoid, is on the fenderwell next to the battery, the pos cable goes to it. Did you replace the cables or just the ends? If you did just the ends, look at the cables, look inside the insulation for corrossion.
ok, i've got the truck to turn over finally, now i cna't get the truck to start? i put fuel down the carb to prime the motor and it fires but then just quits? i'm thinking the carb isn't getting fuel but i 'm not sure, i can't get the fuel cap off to change the fuel filter.
It could be possible that when you ran out of gas you might of sucked something into the line, or mabey the fuel pump is weak? if you cant get the fuel filter canister off you can get a small filter wrench like the ones they use on oil filters. or carefully use channel locks at the bottom of it, there usually not that hard to get off.
To clean out the line, disconnect the fuel line that goes from the tank to the fuel pump, and blow the line out with an air compresser. I also would take the line from the pump to the carb off and blow it out too, just to be sure. The fuel filter can be a PITA to get off. you may need to use a channel lock plyer or something, and it may end up getting bent. Also, from personal experiance, FE fuel pumps tend to die at random times. if you change the filter and blow out the lines and it still isnt working, I would highly suspect the fuel pump may be your problem. Good luck!

thanks for the info. fellas, i have blown out the lines and the line from the tank to the pump must of had something in it but it now is clear. truck still won't start but i still can't get the fuel filter changed!! that fricken thing is ON there, so i'm guessing it's the filter that is pluged.
Hi Livalot4, sounds like a trip to the wrecking yard and get a spare screw on fuel filter canister, I've seen them where they were stubborn coming off - but not as tight as you described. you might have to bend it to get it off. perhaps someone put that one on with a filter type wrench real tight.
