Hey guys its been a while since I drove my truck and it ran fine lastime but I drove 85 miles today and my motor started making some funny noise kinda sounded like puffing coming from a train on top of the normal engine noise.I stopped to get gas and shut it down and now it just clicks and won't turn over at all.I replaced all gp, gp relay, starter and my positive battery cable all in the last 4 months s what else should I check? The starter solenoid maybe?
when you hear a drastic engine noise difference, try to shut it right down asap.not just the next time your ready to fuel up.it could save you hundreds of dollars in repairs.
Sorry guys I was camping and just now got back. I turned the engine by hand with the crank bolt. Also just noticed the engine light is on is there anything I should check? I also changed the starter solenoid
uh theres more than one? im new to this truck and i barely drive it, its red and says engine and has a little picture. its on the left side of the steering column
also i forgot to mention right after i shut it off when i went to start it it would turn over slowly like it was dying then just started clicking. and i have 2 new duralast gold batterys that i think are 1000 cold cranking amps and here is a video i found of the noise that sounds like mine did Thud noise out the intake on the old 7.3L IDI - YouTube
there are only three things that will make the check engine light come on. low oil pressure, high coolant temperature, or a short in one of the sending units or wires.
as for the no start condition, your batteries are most likely dead from a bad alternator. .
Re-check your batteries as stated above. Make sure your grounds are all good.
Check your fluids for cross contamination, water in oil and vise verso.
Sounds like you have two separate issues.
Ok thanks guys I will have to check it next weekend my girlfriend had to drive me home and my trucks 85 miles away. Also I stopped by it yesterday and noticed the truck wouldn't even click every time I turned the keys to start and I remember the guy saying he replaced the lock cylinder before I bought it, could this be part of my problem maybe?
I know the volt meter always reads low on my truck( probably 9-10 volts) when I turn the key to on but I was watching all the gauges while driving and the motor didn't get hot and the volts were in the middle were they normally are while driving my truck, are all the gauges in these trucks junk?
