I have a block that i dont know how to find the date on it. The block and heads were bought at a wrecking yard and they told me it was a 390 of course. It is in fact a 360 but im trying to find out the date. It has 352 stamped on the block but there is not a casting number. It hasnt been ground off or I would be able to tell it had. What it has are numbers that no one that we have talked to have been able to clarify.
The intake has the number G9AE9425B.
The heads have the number D2TEAA.
The block has W3, D11.
Any ideas? The local Ford dealership said they didnt know. Of course, I figure they are the ones that work on escorts and contours. LOL. Thanks for your help.
If all the parts are original it is a 72 or early 73. The D2 part of the head casting means it was cast in 1972. Your intake on the other hand was cast in 1969 since it starts with C9 (not G9). This doesn't mean that all your parts didn't come on that motor from the factory. The C9 intakes were the latest I have seen. The reason I know that it is a 72 - 73 is that the block would have a 105 instead of a 352 if it was a 74 or higher and would not have D2 heads if it was a 71 or earlier.
Josh, I wouldn't be worrying about the date the block was cast. I would be going back to the salvage yard and asking for a partial refund or for another crank and rods. I'm sure the yard knew that the engine was a 360, and charged a higher price for it as if it were a 390. You can tell by looking at the back of the crank 99 times out of 100. DF
Whatever you decide to do, try looking underneath the oil filter adapter right where it bolts to the engine block. There is a pad section on the block where the date code resides. The format is number-letter-number with something that looks like screw heads on each side of it. You may need a wire brush and some rags to get a good reading.
