'99 Coil Spring Removal
Is it possible to remove the coil springs WITHOUT having to remove the UCA from the spindle??
I had the wheels off today, and unless there's some trick, I'm kinda thinking "yes".
Chilton's sucks, it doesn't even mention a CA w/ coil suspension....and no, I haven't checked Haynes, don't own one......
Removal
1. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
2. Remove the upper shock absorber nut/washer assembly and bushing.
3. Remove the lower two nuts and remove the front shock absorber
4. Remove the front stabilizer bar link nut.
5. Use the Coil Spring Compressor to compress the coil spring.
6. Remove the cotter pin and castellated nut.
7. Using the special tool, separate the lower ball joint from the front wheel spindle.
8. Position the front wheel spindle out of the way and remove the coil spring.
Installation
NOTE: The end of the coil spring must cover the first hole and should not be visible in the second hole.
1. Install the coil spring in the lower arm.
CAUTION: Always install the cotter pin into the lower ball joint castellated nut from outboard to inboard. Failure to do so will result in damage to the wheel and tire assembly.
2.Install the lower ball joint.
- Position the front wheel spindle to the lower ball joint.
- Install the castellated nut.
- Install a new cotter pin.
3. Install the front stabilizer bar link nut.
4. Remove the Coil Spring Compressor.
5. Install the front shock absorber and the two lower nuts.
6. Install the upper shock absorber bushing and nut/washer assembly.
7. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
