Hi,
My 2001, 5.4L V8, expedition has done the following twice. When hot, I turn off the truck, come back minutes later, the truck will crank. It starts and it idles horribly rough then stalls. The second time, it wouldn't start, just cranked. Leave it for 30 minutes and it starts and runs like normal. The rest of the time it starts and runs normally.
64k mi, new plugs and COP's. New Idle control valve, recent transmission service.
Of the candidate problems (no fuel, no spark, no air), what's the likely cause? Inertia switch, Ignition control module, MAF sensor?
I have the same problem in my 2000 4.6 expy. It only happens when its hot out side. The last time I had to wait 2 hours before the truck would start up normal. I was told to replace my MAF. We shall see.
I had the exact same problem when I ran the gas low on a long "in the sticks" drive. I had to fill up at some off the wall station and it took two tanks before she ran properly.
I cant run cheap gas in the 98 Lincoln or the 03 Exp they run like crap if I do. I have to do a BG44K or SEAFOAM treatment to get them to run right again - or go through a couple of tanks of name brand gas.
