Jim - heard you message and see your post. I was really tired when I got home from helping my father in law tonight and fell asleep. Let's talk tomorrow after work. I think Mike understands what going to happen here so we just have to coordinate with him and get the truck moved over there so I can tear apart the camper and get that off to the junkyard. After that we'll let people know what is good / not and pull that. We'll then have the junkyard come back a few weeks from now and pick up the frame / cab or whatever doesn't get put to good use for the members and get it out of Mike's way. Another big thank you goes out to Mike. However, we will give Mike one last chance to change his mind before we do this as it's such a big favor for us all.
You guys are great.... I think this will help out a lot of people ...
The camper still has the aluminum shell too. Can take that to a recycling place for some $$$. Do either of you have a trailer? Or do you plan on flat towing it? When can you come down to get it? Is this weekend ok? I need this thing gone as soon as possible. I told the manager it would be towed the 15th, but then I got offers for its parts, so I kept it around. Whatever you don't need you can use for ThumperRoo, or for anyone who needs them. I can throw in the tail gate, and the extra driver's side door panel too. no sense keeping them here to remind me of the truck.
Let me check into a few things today, I might have a plan in the works here. I'm thinking if the truck will fit on Ricks trailer, we may not have to cut up the shell...i/e if we can deliever it (and they'll take it) to a wrecking yard...there's one just a few miles from my place.
This way AJ could just make a "loop", we can yank the engine and tranny and then go dump truck and camper in one shot.
But I didn't get any calls back today, but will head over to the wreckng yard tomorrow and talk to the head honcho and see what they will and won't take.
OK, then I'm not sure about the trailer. I'll have to take a drive to the storage lot and look it over. I think the wheelbase will fit on. I don't know if the wench will handle it. I think the fabric is too brittle... It's been out in the sun and Rick didn't cover it. Scott our other partner said the wood planks need to be replace. Heck I just did that 5 years ago with creosote(sp) dipped wood. I hope I don't have to do that again.
Maybe we need to rent a tow bar .... or I hear they are $50 for the one like I bought at Harbor freight.
OK, so Rick said no. He said he doesn't want anyone to use the trailer until he checks it out. His buddy borrowed it last time and screwed it up he says. Therefore, he's pretty sure it's not safe.
What to do? Rent a tow bar at Uhaul ???? Tomorrow would be the day for me.
Update - Uhaul doesn't rent tow bars anymore just called.

Couple things...mightlokk for a "universal" tow bar, then look at a tow dolly rental...forget about renting a trailer, even U-haul won't rent to less than a 3/4 ton truck.
I working on getting a tow bar from Harbor Freight. They said call back in the AM. The one I have might work. Only problem is they say not to use a PU or Van as a tow vehicle. Appearently they are too light in the rear end. Motorhome is in the shop or that would have been perfect. Doh !!!. Tow dollys should have surge brakes so I'll look at that.
Does anyone have a trailer with brakes we can use.
BTW - How far is it from your place to Mike's Jim? Is it all flat running?
Yeah, frmom Fresno to Oakdale is pretty much a flat drive.
Hey...quick thought here, but if your frame on your pickup is the same as Jims....nothing that drilling 6 holes wouldn't cure and use the tow bar we made for your truck? Heck, two holes on either side would be fine.
Thought more about this and calculated in my sleep. So, I have a 3500-4000lbs. Truck and I was thinking maybe I can tow Jim's truck with mine if I take it easy and coast to a stop or ease the brakes while in tow.
Then I though ... OK with boat behind my Ranger in a emergency the Ranger can haul it for a few miles. Even with the trailer brakes it was kinda hard hauling it down.
All of sudden it pops into my mind. Oh s#!t the camper is still on the Beast. Doh. Well that puts the weight .... idk somewhere 4000to4500+2000to2500lbs.
I'm like !!! That could be as much as 7000lbs.
So this:
to tow this:
I'm thinking not such a great move.
I think a bit longer .... OK, we don't know what the tires are like.
But, if someone was to drive in the cab of the Beast and brake while coming to a stop.... but, the brakes most likely aren't working.
I'd use my AAA but, I've used it too much this year and wife said no.
I'm out of work so I can justify paying ??? $150-200 for the tow.
Some other things to think about... If we flat tow we have to cover the Camper with a tarp etc.....?
Unless someone else has a better idea I'm not seeing how I can help here.
Any ideas .... please no smart remarks ... just trying to figure this out quickly for Jim.
