I ordered it!

Guys, I finally finished dithering and ordered an Undercover hard tonneau and a bed rug for my '06 F-250 CC. I just couldn't find a retractable tonneau that would keep the water out and provide locking security for my equipment and the bed rug will provide some cushion during transit. Should be here in a couple of days and I'll let you know how it goes together.

I have an Undercover and I love it. It is everything they advertise it to be, especially only needing one person to take it off.

Glad to hear that, Noob. I really wanted a retractable and came close to getting Retrax. But I carry lots of $ in equipment and have had it stolen once. The models that provided good security (folding metal panels) couldn't keep the water out and the ones that did a better job keeping the water out were less secure. the Diamondback looked good too but would have been more difficult for me to take off alone.

I'm a newbie so probably can't sent pix but will let y'all know how I like it when I get it together later this week.

Thanks, Storm -

I had a shell on my last truck and my problem was that I needed windows in the sides so I could see to the side for turns, merging, etc. My equipment was visible through the windows and therefore vulnerable since it's pretty obvious that it's expensive gear. I had a window smashed and gear stolen this way so I need to keep it out of sight. Also, I do use the bed occasionally for hauling big stuff so need to remove whatever the device is. Tonneau of some kind seemed to be the only way.

That make sense.. I'm not fond of Camper shells lol.. Did you ever look at Pace Edwards Jack Rabbits? I had one on my truck when I bought it.. It was really nice, I'm not that kinda guy so I ended up selling it off to someone in houston.. But the few weeks I had it in it was pretty tight.. It had drain lines that ran out of my bed to divert water.. Rained few times and I know when I'd open it, I didn't see any water.. They are expensive.. I think mine was somewhere at $700 new.. I got it free on the truck lol

I was very interested in these until looked at an installation of the Pace Edwards Jackrabbit Full Metal with metal panels that fold and store in a cannister at the front of the bed. This particular installation was about two years old and it was leaking badly around the rear seals. Also, one of the drain lines had come off (due to deterioration of the tubing, I guess) and water that was being channeled down the sides was being dumped into the front of the bed. The texturing to the top of the panels was faded badly and kinda' whitish looking around the pebbles and it looked awful. That put me off some too.

Oooh that would for sure set me off.. This was a new unit so I wasn't aware.. You would think that someone could come up with a good roll back type.. Hmm might need to start looking at making one lol.. The whole point of a cover is to keep water out..

Hey, Blue -

I don't know the model number but it's the one designed to fit my '06 F250 CC short bed (6.5 feet I think). I ordered it through my local truck accessory place and the price was $650. I know I could probably have gotten it for less with a direct order but installation is included and these guys have a good reputation locally for standing behind stuff they sell. This will be a company expense so, while I'm concerned about cost, it's not all that high on the list. The Bed Rug was $400 ordered at the same time.

Costs for the JackRabbit or ReTrax were between $1,300 and $1,500 installed. Again, I would rather have had a roll-up cover and wouldn't have been too concerned about the cost but... you saw my earlier problems with these.

I'm looking for a bed cover for 8 ft. bed that looks great and will keep the bed dry and my belongings secure. My truck is like my man toy/ work truck /daily driver. I will be towing a 10 ft Bri-Mar dump and I just want to keep the truck bed nice , clean, dry and secure. Any suggestions.

Hey, 50calmike -

Your post earlier said that your Extang Trifold would be in today. If so, how does it look? Is it what you expected?

I'll say it's not bad. Congratulations and enjoy that new cover! My cover and bed rug should be in tomorrow so I'll have installed tomorrow or Friday, just in time to leave for Calgary again.
