Possible Trans problem?

The other morning I got in my truck and backed out of the driveway. When I put the truck in Reverse and started moving, I heard a loud clunk under the truck. I thought I ran over some thing. Then I noticed I had to push the gas more to get it to back up, kind of like it was slipping.

It has done this a couple times now. It only happens in reverse. When I put it in drive there is no problem.

The truck is an 03 F-150 S/C 4x4 - 5.4 Auto. w/ about 85,000 miles.

Thanks, David

Does your truck have a limited slip rear end? If so that's probably what you are hearing. A fluid change is in order and it should fix your noise.

I think it has limited-slip, but not positive. I'll have to check it tonight.

Thanks,

David

i dont think the LS unit makes a clunk. if it a clunk just as you drop it in reverse, it might be the drive shaft yoke spline wrapping up. if it takes a few seconds and "seems like it drags" then it might be the transmission shift spools sticking inside. i think i would change the transmission fluid and filter if it has not been done. 85K is due. some trash might be causing spool drag.
