Ford on CNN

I really don't know how people pay that much for a truck. I had a friend and ford truck salesman tell me that ford market research said as much as 90% of truck buyers never haul more than groceries or a bag of trash. Bet my trucks wish they had it that easy

the base price for an f-150 is $16,XXX....not $45,XXX
Although I do kinda like her H-2 but couldn't afford the gas for it.
"But why?! It's a Hummer!! Like the army uses!"
WRONG! It's a suburban with an uglier body.
Oh and by the way. Any SUV or truck model that you see on the road that is slammed to the ground with 25" rims and a custom paint job more often than you see it lifted with big tires is a sissy car. Examples: H2, GMC Yukon (or any GM suv for that matter), most Chevy pickups.
Just did a google image search for "Hummer H2" and this is the very first result that popped up:

Actually, let me just post the link to that first page on google image search and you guys can tell me how many hummers you see without huge wheels and custom paint jobs:

We actually rented one of these when we flew out to Arizona one time. It was right after they had came out, when everybody had high hopes for them (including us... yes, even the die hard Ford family). I'll tell you this right now, it was easily one of the crappiest/clunkiest/chinsiest/most cheaply made vehicles I have ever had the displeasure of driving or riding in (and I did drive it). Even being at the young age of 15 when I should have felt like it was the COOLEST VEHICLE EVER, I honestly though to myself "This is what all the hype is about?" What a crock!
I realize I have probably gotten wayy too excited about duck's off-hand comment, and sorry duck this isn't all directed at you, this is directed to all those guys that drive these piles of trash! This post started as about 1 paragraph and I have editted it about 10 times now to add more things that make me angry about this vehicle
That's my rant about H2's. Night guys

If I was making the money I'm making now.. back in the '80, then yeah... I probably would have owned several new vehicles, but that wasn't the case. Besides, I much rather have a soon-to-be paid for home, 3 used vehicles, 2 motorcycles, and a fancy new rec room complete with Plasma TV, than a Supercrew HD edition.
I think auto dealers are thier own worst enemy. Drive by any of them and you can hardly see the building for all the Supercrews and Expeditions in front of it. Good luck test driving a stripped down 4x4, they don't stock them, it has to be special ordered or shipped in from a storage facility somewhere. Wanna know why? There's no profit in the base models... compared to the fully loaded special editions. It alarming the number of soccer moms driving these beasts around instead of a sedan or minivan. I don't get it, maybe 0% financing and leasing is the cause. Whatever the reason, I'm sure the sagging US economy and gas prices will have a corrective effect on this trend and bring more people to their senses.
Although I will say the local dealer has a red 2003 FX4 with extended cab for $23,000. But hell, I paid $6,000 for mine, I don't care how much nicer the FX4 is. And a new truck? Forget about it.
Bought my '92 in November of '92. Fortunately for me, some guy in Biloxi, MS bought it first. Sticker still on it said $28K. I got it for $13.9K, because I got it USED. USED is a relative term for me, though. My "USED" truck had 16 miles on the odo. The other guy basically made a $15K down payment for me.
That came complete with power lumbars, power windows/locks, spare power point in the dash, 5.0 M5R2, with 3.08 dif. GREAT highway truck. Bugger got 22 mpg most of it's life, and will still reliably hit 19 on the highway. It's a little long-legged when you're puttin around in city traffic, but ain't that what the little 1 is on the stick for? 60 mph in 2nd is NO problem, and mind you after 25mph in 2nd, you better hang on. There's still 3 more gears left. Dunno what that truck will do top end, but I'm pretty sure I don't wanna know.
I like the looks of the new ones, but I just ain't got $20K to drop on a new truck. I can't justify replacing one that still works after 152K, and doesn't give me much trouble. It's still got the original pads on the rear brakes (thanks to the M5R2). I've done a little work to it in recent years, and certainly spent WAY too much money at stealerships getting work done on it, but for the first 130K, the ONLY things I replaced on it was the muffler and two sets of tires. (Well, oil/air filters too, but we ALL do that, right?)
Why would I replace a truck that gets 19MPG highway with one that has a smaller engine and gets 16MPG?
Old school all the way I got my 96 New in nowember 95 $13.900 New off the lot pushing 122,000 MIles Stock Water Pump Stock 4R70W Trans.
A F-150 XL regular cab Short bed Fleet Side with at the time Crome Package,(302) Auto 3.55. 60 Monthy Payments OF $231
