Ford on CNN

Ford sales are down, hard to imagine everyone doesn't want to run out and pay 50 to 60K for a new truck.

http://money.cnn.com/2007/10/02/news...ex.htm?cnn=yes

I really don't know how people pay that much for a truck. I had a friend and ford truck salesman tell me that ford market research said as much as 90% of truck buyers never haul more than groceries or a bag of trash. Bet my trucks wish they had it that easy

i would love to buy a new truck.. but the prices scare me.. $45K to $60K for a truck is just ridiculous..even a stripped down work truck is like $45,000 that is just stupid! no wonder why they're losing sales.. Henry Ford is probably rolling in his grave... he wanted to make his automobile AFFORDABLE.

at the dealer here when i was looking i found a f-250 4x4 gas motor xl nothing fancy,(employee pricing)$28000. shees, to me that is way to much for a stripped down work truck. but he said that he could get me in a much nicer truck for the same price, becaus of their volume pricing, whatever, load of poop. if you drive one of these new trucks, you have way more money to throw around than i do. but it does feel nice to be able to drive from tx to ny not having to worry about breaking down and paying for the repairs...

The last new vehicle I bought was a left over 03 Ranger FX4. I got it for about the same as a nice used one but I played with them for 2 weeks before I finally got what I wanted cost wise. My daughters fiancee gets her a new vehicle every year for x-mas, she special orders every one of them. His step dad is part owner of a GM place, she gets some nice vehicles.....if they were just Ford's Although I do kinda like her H-2 but couldn't afford the gas for it.

OH CMON!! Do you have any dignity!? The H2 is about the sissiest, most wanna-be cool dude car you can buy. It's a freakin' suburban chassis/engine/drivetrain with a lame looking body plopped on top (no joke). Ask anyone who knows anything about offroading and they'll tell you that the H2 is about the worst offroad vehicle you're gonna find.

"But why?! It's a Hummer!! Like the army uses!"

WRONG! It's a suburban with an uglier body.

Oh and by the way. Any SUV or truck model that you see on the road that is slammed to the ground with 25" rims and a custom paint job more often than you see it lifted with big tires is a sissy car. Examples: H2, GMC Yukon (or any GM suv for that matter), most Chevy pickups.

Just did a google image search for "Hummer H2" and this is the very first result that popped up:

http://www.motordesktop.com/wallpaper/general/Hummer%20H2%20Geiger%20-%201024x768.jpg

I bet he takes that baby offroad all the time
Actually, let me just post the link to that first page on google image search and you guys can tell me how many hummers you see without huge wheels and custom paint jobs:

|--->Pathetic huh?

We actually rented one of these when we flew out to Arizona one time. It was right after they had came out, when everybody had high hopes for them (including us... yes, even the die hard Ford family). I'll tell you this right now, it was easily one of the crappiest/clunkiest/chinsiest/most cheaply made vehicles I have ever had the displeasure of driving or riding in (and I did drive it). Even being at the young age of 15 when I should have felt like it was the COOLEST VEHICLE EVER, I honestly though to myself "This is what all the hype is about?" What a crock!

I realize I have probably gotten wayy too excited about duck's off-hand comment, and sorry duck this isn't all directed at you, this is directed to all those guys that drive these piles of trash! This post started as about 1 paragraph and I have editted it about 10 times now to add more things that make me angry about this vehicle

That's my rant about H2's. Night guys

Cool

you know what though, it sure beats a fricken Honda CR-V or a Toyota Highlander. or any of those ....."SUV's".(and i use that term VERY loosely).. that the japs make....peices of crap they are.everytime i put one on a lift i just look at how small the control arms, driveshafts, and suspensions are. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REAL SUV'S!!! like the broncos, the blazers, and ram chargers! i mean the H2 is more of a REAL SUV then any of the ones made today....

Hi. My name is Paul... I'm 40... and I have never bought a new vehicle.

If I was making the money I'm making now.. back in the '80, then yeah... I probably would have owned several new vehicles, but that wasn't the case. Besides, I much rather have a soon-to-be paid for home, 3 used vehicles, 2 motorcycles, and a fancy new rec room complete with Plasma TV, than a Supercrew HD edition.

I think auto dealers are thier own worst enemy. Drive by any of them and you can hardly see the building for all the Supercrews and Expeditions in front of it. Good luck test driving a stripped down 4x4, they don't stock them, it has to be special ordered or shipped in from a storage facility somewhere. Wanna know why? There's no profit in the base models... compared to the fully loaded special editions. It alarming the number of soccer moms driving these beasts around instead of a sedan or minivan. I don't get it, maybe 0% financing and leasing is the cause. Whatever the reason, I'm sure the sagging US economy and gas prices will have a corrective effect on this trend and bring more people to their senses.

youre right, they do not stock them, the dealer i was at,special ordered it for a company that went belly up, it was the only one on the lot,and they kept it for a long time, but i do see it around, a old rancher bought it and is using for its purpose, work truck it has a big ole hay spike and a bed mounted feeder. what a pretty sight. the other day i saw a king ranch that had a flat bed, not a thing was on it not even a piece of dust, rancher, probaly not, probly a guy from downtown dallas, with 2 or 3 haed of cattle with 5 acres of land in the country. it must be a status thing.

My truck is 12 years old and probably has another 12 years in it.

Although I will say the local dealer has a red 2003 FX4 with extended cab for $23,000. But hell, I paid $6,000 for mine, I don't care how much nicer the FX4 is. And a new truck? Forget about it.

Hmm, should I tell about my deal?

Bought my '92 in November of '92. Fortunately for me, some guy in Biloxi, MS bought it first. Sticker still on it said $28K. I got it for $13.9K, because I got it USED. USED is a relative term for me, though. My "USED" truck had 16 miles on the odo. The other guy basically made a $15K down payment for me.

That came complete with power lumbars, power windows/locks, spare power point in the dash, 5.0 M5R2, with 3.08 dif. GREAT highway truck. Bugger got 22 mpg most of it's life, and will still reliably hit 19 on the highway. It's a little long-legged when you're puttin around in city traffic, but ain't that what the little 1 is on the stick for? 60 mph in 2nd is NO problem, and mind you after 25mph in 2nd, you better hang on. There's still 3 more gears left. Dunno what that truck will do top end, but I'm pretty sure I don't wanna know.

I like the looks of the new ones, but I just ain't got $20K to drop on a new truck. I can't justify replacing one that still works after 152K, and doesn't give me much trouble. It's still got the original pads on the rear brakes (thanks to the M5R2). I've done a little work to it in recent years, and certainly spent WAY too much money at stealerships getting work done on it, but for the first 130K, the ONLY things I replaced on it was the muffler and two sets of tires. (Well, oil/air filters too, but we ALL do that, right?)

Why would I replace a truck that gets 19MPG highway with one that has a smaller engine and gets 16MPG?
