I changed my fuel filter and was looking in where the filter came out. At the bottom of the resevoir is a 1/2 circular wire. Looks like part of a springy clip about as round as the filter. I could wiggle it around a bit and was tempted to pull it out but feared I would break something.
Question: Any idea what it is? Should it be 1/2 circle or is it broken?
could this be am MPG problem?

I believe you are talking about the fuel heater element. Don't mess with that if that is what you are talking about. The next thing you know you will blow a fuse that will give you fits with the truck.
