hi,
i've read all the posts above and i still have a question: i have a 1976 f250 whose gauge cluster turned to dust. i threw out the old pieces including the colored circuit board so i don't know what color it was. i got a cluster off ebay before i knew there were two pin sizes, oof! my question is, if i got the wiring diagram for both trucks, can i splice the newer cluster in? i realize the high beam bezel is in a different place, but do you all think the gauges will work?
thanks in advance!
Gauges cluster = 18 pin
Warning lights cluster = 14.
They really can't be adapted to each other.
Which one was in the truck ..gauges of warning lights ?
There are plenty out there for you to do it right.
If you want to upgrade, you need the complete harness.
i found my old piece of circuit board. unlike what the junkyard told me (that it would be blue or green), it is a red/pinkish color. 2 rows of 7 copper conductors. part # 06TF-10C956-C1.
i'm still thinking of splicing a 9 pin connector to my wiring loom since these 7 pin units never pop up on ebay. does anyone know the positions/colors of the two wires i'll need to leave off?
if anyone knows any good sources of these gauge clusters, let me know, thanks!
looking at my circuit panel and the bits of plastic left, i can see i had the two idiot lights and two gauges...14 pin connector, just like mil1ion said!
thanks to those who have responded; now i know what i'm looking for!
I found a 100 mph cluster real cheap. It has the blue circuit and my has the pink / red. Is it possable to swap the circuit panels? if itis do i swap the regulators also? Not really concerned about the high beam light and both have the idiot lights. This is in a 79 F100.
If I were to try an upgrade from idiot lights to guages, I wouldn't mess around with asking how and trying to switch from 14 to 18 pin connector and what not.....I'd just get some good mechanical gauges since they are more reliable than idiot lights and factory guages and mount them under the dash. JMHO.
The 100 MPH speedo only does something for your ego (mine has it but will never-ever hit 100 unless dropped from a C-130). Think of it in a manner similar to the marketing people making the newer cars...my new company (chevy) truck has a speedo that goes to 140 MPH. It is LIMITED at 96 and strains to get there! LOL But it does get noticed when people get in and see a 140 MPH speedo.
I've got a 100mph speedo in my 77 f150 supercab longbed with a 400 and usually top out on the freeway around 85mph but I have touched 100mph once! lol just thought I'd share that it's possible....just not reasonable on gas lol
I'm just wondering what the idiot lights are? I'm not sure if it has been explained yet or not. But could someone please explain to me the difference between the idiot lights and gauges? thanx
hey guys, for the leds, go to ebay and put in "194 led" and there are a bunch that pop up...theres on where you get 10 bulbs for $10 ....sounds like a good deal to me
