Ok, so I have been considering doing the TC lockup mod to my truck for some time. The price is right, and I hate how when my truck downshifts it takes a good two seconds for the power to get to the wheels. However, I am IGNORANT when it comes to electrical work. I know to some this mod seems easy, but its a little intimidating to me. So, who has the most basic explanation of how to do this mod? I really appreciate the help.
Thanks for the info. I have seen Guzzle's description before, but thats a little more complicated than I'm concerned with. If the OD light bothers me I'll just cover it up with something. The other link gives me a pretty good description how to do the mod the easy way. My only questions are 1) Since my truck is a 2003, where can I find the #6 pin? and 2) Whats the reccomended switch to use?
If anyone has any pics that may help I would really appreciate it (i.e. locating the pin, switch mounting, etc.).
i don't have pics but i can brake it down and you can look at pics on the other site. below the power brake booster next to the steering shaft on the frame is 3 junction boxes for wires the fwd most one is the one you looking for. the purple wire on the lower side (sorry don't know the pin number) when you find that that are a few things you can do.
1) you can cut it and splice another wire into it having 3 wires to tape back up as one
2) go to home depot, auto zone, and get some of the wire taps thah slip over the wire and you put a wire next and just clamp down
3)then take a toggle switch and run it into the cab hooked to the wire
4)hook 2nd wire to ground side and mount to good ground point ie. brace under steering wheel
5)find a place to mount the switch i drilled a hole next to my 4x4 switch
6) start the truck apply parking brake push on brake HARD and put truck into gear turn the switch on IF the truck dies you have TC lock up if not bad ground or wrong wire. there are pics of the wire in the above stated site
i just a dumb marine bt i hope this helps you with what you need. and remember if you do it this way don't leave it on if the rpm's get below 1200. the tc will lock by its self after 47mph give or take. and theres nothing cooler thepulling up to a stop light with the tc locked and killing the truck
Thanks, that was me. I was trying to get some more help since my hands were literally dirty trying to figure that thing out. I finally got it though. I appreciate the help.
