T/C lockup switch

Sorry to bother everyone, but I have dial up and it takes for ever to look through the search results. I heard that there is an easy and cheap way to add a switch for t/c lock up. Any help will be great.

I got this from Pure Diesel Power for $50: http://www.puredieselpower.com/catal...products_id=93
I t comes with an LED to show you when the T/C is locked up. Somebody here might have a cheaper way to do it, but that was an easy addition for me.

The TC lockup is a simple mod. It only requires tapping into the purple w/yellow trace wire that is on the PCM plug. A switch that will ground this wire when flipped will lockup the TC. Addition of a LED will allow you to see when the TC is locked. It's about $8 in RadioShack parts.

Can you use a switch that illuminates when the TC is locked?

Nope, LED has to be powered from a separate source. The switch completes the circuit to ground.

pin number 6 in the forward most grey connector under the brake master cylinder,
tap that and connect the neg lead from your led to that, then ground the other side of the switch. the hot side to your led should be hooked up to a hot wire when the key is on. i used one of the ustomer access wires under the dash/fuse panel area

I've got a dumb question. Do you have to release the TC each time you come to a stop or is there enough slippage to allow switch on all the time.

Thanks

I kinda thought that. Bet it pulls better and lower trans temp with it locked though. Right-wrong.

i think it is one of the most fun mods i have done. on the way home from the auto parts store and the dealership, i said "hey dad want to make some smoke?"

he never knew my truck could roll out that much smoke, he was grinning as much as i was . i got mine from Garrett @ PDP as Lushman gave the link to.

Other than the stalling when coming to a stop, is there a downside to having it locked from say 10mph on? I know the real benefits are for towing and going downhill (at least I think that is the way I understand it), but if it reduces the slippage and lowers the tranny temp, why not lock it right after you start moving??? Can I hurt something if it is in the wrong position at some point in the shifting with my DP chip? I am just trying to make sure I use it correctly.

i try to lock mine as much as possible with my foot off the throttle. say if you get to 10mph and you are still in 1st gear (while accelerating) you will be around 1500 rpm right? well if you kit the lock switch and dont let off, you will jerk like crazy, and it will fall to around 1000 rpm. i downshift manually to 2nd or 1st if i go below 10mph and keep it locked. but try to keep it above idle in 1st if you have it locked.

I want to do this mod to my 01 psd. Where do I find the pcm plug with the purple w/yellow wire on it. It sounds easy enough to do. Just find the wire and run a switch to it that causes the purple/yellow wire to ground itself out, correct. I sure would hate to burn something up.

If you have tried a manual lockup switch, a couple questions:

If you have it manually locked, should you unlock it before it downshifts
or upshifts? Is it hard on the tranny to let it shift while manually locked?

Do you get a flashing O/D light when you use these switches? Does that
make the tranny go into a fail safe mode?
