Question HELP PLEASE, Trouble finding the correct wire for TC lockup switch

I am pretty certain I have identified the correct connector. There seems to be two violet w/yellow stripe wires. I have tried tapping into both, and grounding the other end of the wire while putting the truck into drive and mashing the brake hoping for the engine to stall, but so far no luck. I am so electrically challenged though, that Im not even sure if I am grounding correectly. Any reccomendations on where I should be placing the other end of the wire to get a good ground from inside the cab while sitting in the seat? Also, any help pointing me in the right direction finding the wire. It is almost as though my #6 pin is not the right color. Thanks.

Get a shop manual for your truck and use the electrical diagrams to find the right wire. That's how I found the right one for mine. You should be able to get one from http://www.fordcds.com.

That link doesnt work. But I am really trying to wire this thing up today anyways. I just went and tried some more. Re-attempted the same wires, and even tried one that was orange w/white stripe, but it looked to me like it was in the #6 pin position. I also used the grounding poiint that ron's power stroke mentioned above. All I did was touch the exposed wire to the grounding point....is that enough to ground it out? I really appreciate the help. I feel like a real dumb*$$ right now. Also, I thought I had read before that on the 2003 you had to tap into the wire going into the transmission. I havent tried that because I cant get to the wires there without a lot of work (like unbolting the exhaust). Does anyone know if thats actually true? Do I have to tap in above the transmission? Surely someone with a 2003 has done this and can chime in. Thanks.

Hey Kris,

Thanks for the pics. Is yours an 03? if so I am way off on what I thought was the right connector plug. I was using the forward most grey connector sitting on top of the wheel well. It looks like you are plugged into the connector that is on the post closest to the firewall. Sort of vertical as opposed to horizontal. Thanks again.

Don't put the truck in gear and hope to stall it, that can be hazardous and well you know what could go wrong. Put the truck in park, and when you ground it, you should be able to hear a faint, but distinct rattle coming from the transmission which is the TC being locked and spinning the trans at the same speed as the engine. No harm done.

Well, I didnt get your last post before I left out to try it again, so I did stall it, hopefully I didnt mess anything up. I read on Guzzles page and other's that that was how to test and make sure you have the correct wire. Regardless, the picture was definitely worth a thousand words. I found the correct wire right away. Unfortunately I will have to wait until tomorrow to finish because I will have to go to the shop to install the switch, I dont have the right tools here. Nonetheless, thanks a lot for the help. From everyone. I will let you guys know what I think of the mod when I finish it up tomorrow.

Good yob. When you lock it up during acceleration, it's better to not be completely off the throttle or hard on the throttle.

Thanks, I have read many different opinions on when to use the switch. I hope to find my own style without damaging anything. But mainly I just want to be able to get up to speed, lock the converter. Then if the truck downshifts while climbing a hill or whatever I dont want the rpms to spool up for 3-4 seconds waiting for the power to actually make it to the wheels. Im sure I will try to have some fun with it though, any reccomendations?

If you have some sort of smoke producing device, putting the truck in 2nd, locking the TC and slowing down to about 1200 rpm and just matting the pedal produces some awesome soot.

That sounds awesome. When I eventually get my DP Tuner I will have to try that. My truck is more or less stock for now. Thanks again for all the help. BTW, thats a bad-*$$ truck you got there. Nice work.

Not to butt in but all you do is tap into the grey w/ yellow tracer wire to a switch, then ground? Can I use a switch that lights up so I know its on? Do I cut the wire or just tap into it? Sorry for all the questions but I've been wanting to do this and those are some good pictures to follow.

Thanks a bunch
