This seems like a really lame question but how do i remove the bushings from my end links that go from the frame to the sway bar itself. I tried applying some heat and that just melted the rubber. Do they need pressed? My truck is a 2003 crew cab 4x4 with the 7.3 and it's the inch and a quarter sway bar.
I just burn/sawed/cut/twisted them out. Real PITA but the poly bushings I put in place hasn't clunked yet. The rubber will burn out before the metal gets too hot.
Welcome to the site. Just watch out beacuse if you spend too much time reading round these parts you're gonna catch the PMS (Powerstroke Modification Syndrome). Once you get it there is almost no turning back.
Just buy new swaybar up links...That may be a lot easier....those bushings are a challenge.
Well...That's what I did anyway...I guess I'm just a little lazy.
We did that before we found the poly replacements, hopefully you wont, but more then likely youll notice them to start clunking agian, they just dont last. Ive put 3 poly sets on now, each time, you heat the bushings up hot, (rubber catches fire) then use a hammer and beat them out of the links. Let them cool, clean them up, add some paint and put the new bushings in, and your done.

No doubt easier, but more costly. My first set lasted 60k the next two sets of new links lasted less that 30k each. Once the rubber is out, the polys are a breeze the swap out.
I got mine from here http://www.suspension.com/ They are very friendly, and with the 3 IIRC different types of front sway bar bushings its not easy. The first time they got the wrong part to me, and were very very good about the return process and getting the new part out, before I even sent the first one back. And they are on the other coast compared to me! Great great customer service IMO
I tried burning the stock bushings out and it just melted the rubber, so i ended up putting them into a hydraulic press, bingo they came right out. Installation of the new polys was cake, hopefully they hold up.

The bushings are pressed in yes, and its near impossible (i say near because im sure someone has done it) to just punch them out with a hammer, unless you heat them up, and then whack it. Then they come out pretty easily. If you have a nice press you really have no need for the torch, i just dont have a hydraulic shop press yet.
would i be able to use poly bushings on my 03 with a 6.0 super duty?
Im 99.9% certain that up untill the coil spring / radius arm suspension in 05 they were the same, so yes. However during the 99-04 chassis there was 3 different sway bars. Give these guys a call, they will hook you up, IIRC they are like $35
