Does anyone know of a good place to find brake upgrades for 78-79 Broncos? I have a 78, and I am looking for a really good set of calipers and discs that will bolt right onto the current set up (no cutting, welding, fabricating). Since I have bigger tires, I need better brakes. And yes, I did come across the tech article on this site about brakes, however I would prefer to avoid that route and find easier bolt on goodies rather than mess with adapters for brake lines and conversions. Any suggestions? Thanks.
www.LMCtruck.com slotted and cross drilled rotos and some better pads would be the bolt on route I'd think...or you could trade that 78 for my 83.....heh heh
Brake pad choice is important!! metallic if you drive a lot of miles on the road and have stoplights and higher brake temps to deal with!! Organic if you drive off road more or do mostly highway or country driving without lots of stop lights, Lower temp braking is better with organics!! If you use organics for higher brake temp conditions they will not last as long but when you are off road you will have the performance you need!!
+1 for the slotted rotors just because they look cool as hell and self clean mud!!
Purchase a set of Bendix or some re-manned calipers to start. As for the rest of the brake parts....Slotted and drilled rotors with Hawk FerroCarbon HD pads are an excellent upgrade. I found them to be a tremendous difference over stock rotors and pads. Brake fade disappeared, and stopping power increased tremendously. This is especially true with larger tires and towing.
