My truck has the wrong speedometer gear its for 3.55 and my truck has 4.10s. Can anyone tell me how far my speedometer is off with stock size tires? In the near future I'am buying new tires I have had 265-75-16 on my dads truck before so they will fit but will a 285-75-16? Also how will this tire sizes affect my gear ratio and speedometer? Thanks
2400 RPM with a four speed and 4.10 gears on 235/85-16 tires would be 55.2 MPH.
2400 RPM with a four speed and 3.55 gears on 235/85-16 tires would be 63.7 MPH.
2400 RPM with a four speed and 4.10 gears on 265/75-16 tires would be 55 MPH.
2400 RPM with a four speed and 4.10 gears on 285/75-16 tires would be 57 MPH.
I swapped the transfer case in my 1985 F-250 with one out of a junk yard and now my speedo reads about 8 - 10 miles fast at 65. I believe my truck has 4.10 gears. Is it the small plastic gear on the end of the speedo cable that I need to change or something more extensive. Thanks.
KStretch55 I had the same problem with my 85. It had a 16 tooth gear on the speedo cable, and I replaced it with a 19 tooth one if I remember right. It put it dead on. Hope this helps.
