The speedo cable from the 1967/72 Mustangs screw on, and Cruise Control was available on Mustangs beginning in 1968 (the speedo head was the same as 1967).
Good Info NumberDummy I didn't even think of that, I have a 73 Mustang and I believe it screws in. however it still doesn't sound easy to find a cable, I'm sure cruise controls in those early mustangs were rare. I guess they were a little more common in the cougars or <st1:city w:st="on"><st1>Lincolns</st1>l</st1:city> so maybe there is hope. I'm kicking myself because I saw a 71 or72 truck with a speedo cable with a speed sensor and other weird devices which I later learned was a early smog control device required in <st1:state w:st="on"><st1>California</st1></st1:state>. Unfortunately it didn’t cross my mind to snag the cable.

Does anoy one know if there are some kind of shops around that can build one?

Don't give up yet, it's possible that once I know the length of the cables, I can find you a new one. FTE sponsor Green Sales is the place I'll try first. Green has a link here on this page to their online parts locator, so mebbe they'll have a cable that'll work. Green sells obsolete Ford parts.
I'd like to say Thank you one and all that answered my post,And gave me some direction and got me back on track,I now have a tilt column w/ turn signals and E-flashers that finally work and serve a purpose in my 68 ranger. So once again Thank you. Now,if only this FLEX PLATE was going to be as simple!Anybody got any suggestions its a 390 w/C6
To those of you that have installed the 78-79 column in the 67-72 trucks, what did you do about the column to floor seal? the newer column seal dosent seem to cover the hole or fit the contour of the floor.

Several of us have converted manual to auto trannys. The flexplates are all the same for the FE engines with one exception the 428 and the 410 that uses the 428 crank.
I understand Mil1ion, as I said I already have the whole setup which includes the wiring harness (that connects to the steering column wiring harness, the trucks brake light), the control module, relay, 2 brake switches, servo, speed sensor, and 2 piece speedometer cable. That should be everything I need.
The only problem I see is connecting the 78 truck push on speedo cable to my 71 truck's threaded speedometer.
You also need the special brake pedal and possibly pedal assembly.
Here's the list I made up for 73-79's
Cruise Contol module (Underdash)
Cruise Control wiring (Underdash)
Cruise Contol actuating device on Intake
(Carb linkage chain,bracketry,Vacuum pod)
Vacuum actuation device harness
Vacuum Canister and hose to rear of intake.
Brake Booster FT-38 ,or FT-43
Brake Pedal & Pedal Assembly
2 piece speedo cable and sensor
Cruise Control shutoff switch
Horn relay & wiring
I'd like to do this swap to a 67-68 mustang, could I remove the tilt guts and swap it to a mustang coulmn 67-68 and still keep the key on the dash front, 69 and up the key went to the coulmn , what year would be the best to look for, all I can find here in Cleveland Ohio is 79 and up tilts with scrap being so high there junking it all after a year in the yard

Yes, you are right it doesn't fit. I had to use the 67-72 floor seal. I had to take the old column apart to get it off. I reused the integrated metal and rubber seal and the rubber seal that was on top of that. Looks like it belongs there now.

Why don't you just buy the Mustang 67/68 tilt column ?
