If it is set correctly at 21-22psi, it shouldn't. The only code you should get is the low HPOP pressure, which goes away on its on in ~2 minutes. Also, it shouldn't defuel at 22. It does that at 25.
But the truck still throws a code at 22psi and defuels. What gives?
Damnit!!!
What code is it throwing? Is it just an ses light that goes away? If so, no biggy. Of course if it is defueling as you say, you will know it. Is it defueling and why do you say that?
I guess it would do that if it's reading high. The PCM decides when to defuel, so if the MAP sensor is telling the PCM that it's seeing 25psi at only 18, then yeah I guess that's a bad "new" one.
Not sure about the ITP OBA but the DIY Map fooler, has an arrow on the bottom of the regulator to indicate flow direction, If its pointin the wrong way then its not doin anything.
I didn't ralize the ITP came with the hose attached, thats pretty straight forward. When I made mine I formed new hoses, and the first time I did not pay attention to that little direction of flow arrow and had to flip it around.
Yep... And the little bracket you stick under the sensor. Took about 5 minutes to install. Then I promptly left the sensor plug loose, so I drove around for a couple days with an SES light until it dawned on me (with the help of a buddy with a code reader!!) that I left it off...

Just replaced my DIY with a higher quality regulator works good now.
Originally spent $14.96 and got a Lowe's/Kobalt "NPS air adjusting valve", and it didn't have the low end adjustability that I needed. So now I spent $19.94 and got their "mini Air Regulator" and it works great even has a lock feature like my air compressor. Amasing when $5 makes a difference.
