Are the frames?

The same between the 4x2 and 4x4's?
I'm looking at a 71 4x4 and the frame is rough, but have a nice 67 4x2 frame. Could I swap the front ends and it just bolt on?

This is might be my first 4wd and will be a real learning curve.

Measure, measure, measure, I do know if its a high boy (4x4) frame it will be narrow. I would measure the front & back with and then view the cab mount and any cross members location to compare the two frames.

My buddy converted his 65 into a 4x4 by swaping everything he needed from another truck. He said everything bolted right up.

Th crossmembers are in different spots. In the 2wd, the crossmember goes under the engine and also has the mounts for the I beams, while the 4wd has the crossmember further forward and higher with a different oil pan to clear it, and the front axle.
A straight axle may fit a 2wd frame, but it will make contact if you have less than about 3" of lift.

Well, I went and looked at the possible purchase. It's pretty rough and not usable enough for me. Ya, I saw the front crossmember, and it doesn't look easily removable(beside cutting torch). Rest of truck was too rough for my needs, so I'll let it go.

Thanks for the info guys.

If you want a 4x4, check the Denver area and/or out west.... Denver has a good craigslist as well....the trucks out here always seem to be very low rust.

Ya, not big on 4x4, but saw this(local to me on Ebay) and thought I'd might go that route. Just want to keep a truck around for hauling stuff(don't go offroad), and maybe hang a blade on it for plowing the drive. Don't need anything fancy, but my ol '67 is really falling apart and I'm trying to piece something together.

Poking around on Ebay, there are some really neat pieces out west(dang, just kills me). Just hate buying site unseen(in person). Everyone has there OWN version of nice or restorable. Right now there is a guy in WA that has a complete parts truck, in pieces, ready for paint. 3000 miles away really puts a damper on things.
