I dont think steinbrenner is going to do a dern thing.. i think steinbrenner is prolly in the stages of alzheimers or something where he carries around a pink bunny rabbit and thinks its the Easter Bunny. Shame is hes not really suffering.. That mean rotten son of a gun (insert less family oriented word here) should be having a slow painful death/ I know they announced on the news the other day that the one son is now taking over the boss' position cause the other one they picked is getting divorced from steinbrenners daughter so hes out...
as to teams choking in the stretch how about my team the Mets?? ahead seven games now tied for first place and if they blow today and the phils win we gotta play them if they lose we gain the lead and title back.... but still they lost how many in a row?? even at home against the Nationals no less the lowest scoring team in baseball??
If anyone in baseball should be fired its Omar Minaya and " I dont know how to pull a pitcher unless hes given the game away" Willie Randolph
Even if the Mets dont make the playoffs or the series i will watch and root for the national league .. i love the game of baseball and will suffer withdrawals until spring training opens
How long do you think it' going to take Steinbrenner to fire Torre when the Yankees go out in the 1st round?
I always chuckle when I see ownership of a MLB franchise make hasty Managerial changes when things go awry. Baseball (especially Major League Baseball) is the least coachabale of any sport, primarily since strategic baserunning (the most coachable aspect of the game) is pretty much NIL in todays game. Given this, the decisions made by most modern day MLB Managers has for the most part relatively little effect during the course of a game, and many times negative effects.
Baseball has a saying, "You win some, you lose some. And some get rained out," reflecting the fatalistic losses that is necessary to maintain your sanity as a baseball player or coach.

the cubs were dead last a year ago....
the players they picked up in the off season had mediocore years
I'd say the coach has something to do with it....Even if the players play harder cause they want to win for the coach, The coach made an impact

I would agree that baseball PLAYERS are the least coachable atheletes. The physical skills of todays player are tremendous, but I think we see alot more bonehead, dosen't-have-his-head-in-the-game kind of errors than we used to see. (I don't want to go into an "old days" diatribe)
the yanks will get through the 1st round if Arod can jack 10+
A-rod in the post season? All I can think of is his bitch-slap of the ball in the 2004 playoffs.....the one where the Yanks made history by losing after being up 3-0.....

Sox in four games.....
I agree..
I think A-ROID is a waste of skin, that lieing, cheating SOB...
I hate the Yankees as much as the next guy, but A-ROID? I haven't heard anything about him juicing. Giambi, yes, but not A-rod. The guy's a hell of a ball player, and i'm sure the Sox, as well as every other team, would love to have him.

You haven't heard about him trying to cheat his way onto first base against the Red Sox in 04? In order to avoid an out he tried knocking the ball out of the hands of the player trying to tag him out..
You haven't heard about him cheating on his wife? All the fans wearing masks of a Blonde to mock him..
You haven't heard about the play where he forced a misplay of a ball by yelling that "he got it" when rounding the bases..
Just to name a few....
The Sox did want him and he chose the Yankees.. Well I think the Yankees are sorry for that deal..
I would be amazed if they extend his contract.. They want players with talent and integrity..
He's probably not the only guy on the field that cheated on his wife. And yes, I saw his little league b.s. I'm not tryin' to be his apologist-i'm just sayin' the Yankees aren't in the playoffs without him.
I'm not sure what you mean by integrity as far as baseball players are concerned. Does it have anything to do with on the field play?

I would disagree.
There is ANOTHER saying Jake in the Major Leagues that goes, "You got only TWO chances in the Major Leagues; one to get there, and one to stay there."
These guys attempt to "play harder" EVERY day, regardless of who's the Boss....they must. They're always two errors or .10% points away from being sent back down to the minors - possibly forever.
....You haven't heard about the play where he forced a misplay of a ball by yelling that "he got it" when rounding the bases....
Believe it or not, a common practice which is actually instructed. And just another dirty little secret in MLB (amongst others).

Yep.
He claimed he wanted to leave Seattle in search of a World Series ring, and that '....it's not about the money....' That next season he was signed with the previous years last place Rangers for a sum and contract which guaranteed him to be the highest paid ball player that season.
