muddragging engine

I got a used 460 with a performer intake,1inch carb spacer, lunati 0096lk,new lunati valve springs and L&L headers in my mud rig right now. The problem is I weigh around 6000lbs. I bought a 79 bronco that I will run next year. I got another used 460 for it. I picked up a air gap intake for $150 and I am wondering if the parts I chose the first time will work well with intake or maybe a different cam would be better. In my class you are required to pull 14inches of vacuum at 1000 rpm. I am also running 4.10 gears on 36" tsl"s.

for the rpm air gap youd want something more like the lunati 31604, but im not sure if you could get your 14" of vacuum without putting a stroker kit in with that cam.

Testing has shown that after a brief amount of time, the heat soak into the manifold puts the same heat as a normal aluminum manifold would.

I don't have the specs handy for the cam you listed (nor do I feel like looking it up), do you think you can post the specs for us?

The intake was bought cause it was cheap. This lunati cam that I speak of will pull 14" of vacuum at 1000rpm. I looked back 4 or 5 pages and seen that Greenhighboy recomended lunati voo doo 61602 in a fairly stock 460. I chose the 00096 cause he recommended it over a year ago and I love it. I also picked up some used hooker headers cheap. We had to modify them but they do fit.

the 61602 would be good for your application and should make 14" of vacuum assuming everything is put together right and in good shape, but you asked what would be a good cam for the intake, so i picked a little bigger one because of the intake volume.

The 61602 is pulling 16" at 800 RPM in a pretty loose 11:1 comp. motor right now. I think I've got the guy the motor belongs to talked into trying the 61603. If it doesn't pull vacume I'm gonna put it in the 429 in my highboy.

At what point does a guy need to start thinking roller rockers? I have never been around them. 00096 seems to work fine with my stock valvetrain, and I really do not want to have trouble with a different setup. Also should a guy start thinking about a stall converter, if so how big? I should weigh around 4000lbs, 36" tires,4.10 gears, stock C6, stock cast iron Tcase out of a f-150.

I just built a 460 bored 60 over with roller rockers and guide plates, c8 heads with the bump ground out at the exhaust side, flat top pistons giving it 11:1 compression, factory cast intake, factory cast exhaust manifolds with the lunati voodo 61602 camshaft in it and at 30 degrees of timing it pulls 19" pounds of vaccum at 800 rpm's.

I am curious about how many rpm's greenhighboy turns his. Mine seems to stop building rpm's at around 4800 rpm's. Does yours do this also. It has a 950 carb on it.
