[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Mar-02 AT 00:20 AM (EST)]I know about the #'s under the oil filter but are there any other block #'s I should know about?
I've got two blocks, one has W3 and L17<---almost positive

and the other has E1 and O17 <---- a little unsure

Also there is a number above the oil filter,the first one reads:
38 DIF <--- not sure on the 38 and the I may be a 1

and the second one reads
45 DIF <--- not sure on the 45 and the I may be a 1

Any help would be apreciated thanks a ton!

Ok I see I posted a bit too early the casting numbers are on the front passanger side, the first one has 9L 21H

the second one has 2H 2D and a big bold 7

Michael, Look for a stamping like DT3E-AC or C8AE-A, those are your block ID markes.

DIF stands for "Detroit Iron Foundry" -- the location where all of the FE blocks were cast.

thanks for the replys, Ive been all over the block any Idea where the id might be? Will it be popped out like the stuff under the oil filter or stamped on like the the casting numbers on the pass. front?
